Not upgarding ram

I have a Lenovo essential g500
It has 2 gb and can be upgradable to 8gb I bought a crucial 4 GB ram stick 1600 mhz I put it in and starting the PC but it still shows 2 gb ram installed

1| It's bad practice to mix and match ram sticks.
2| Can you please pass on a link to the ram you purchased and a pic of the ram you currently own?
3| Have you made sure your laptop's BIOS is up to date?
4| It'd help us two fold if we knew of the SKU for you Lenovo laptop(to understand its specs).
