I recently upgraded the gtx 1080 mxm on my laptop to an RTX 2080 but for some reason it reads as "microsoft basic display adapter".
I tried to uninstall the current gpu drivers and install new ones intended for RTX 2080 laptop but it keeps saying that it could not find the graphics hardware.

The graphics card does work since it was from another laptop, I tried stuff like iobit drivers and checking windows update for drivers but nothing,
any ideas ?

Make and model of your laptop? An SKU will help us two fold. As for your laptop, can you see if there's any BIOS updates pending for said laptop? Can you also parse a link to the site off of which you purchased the MXM card from?

it's clevo brand (P775 TM1G), I think there might be a bios update too but I'm scared to do it, does bios make rtx cards compatible or something? it's version 5.12 and it's american megatech megatrends.

also the MXM was from another clevo laptop of the same brand

Sadly I can't find much info about how to update your laptop's BIOS outside of these videos;

Hope these help but perhaps someone else can come around with guidance.
well I found the right bios but I'm unsure with how to flash them, some said that you don't need a usb for these. just run wmeset and run FlashWinX64.bat.

but then clevo is like put all that in a usb, boot into uefi shell enviroment(which I don't know how to boot into) go into bios subfolder, run flash.nsh then run *efi file (I don't know either since there are five >_<' )

I found the real bios version btw

bios version : 1.05.11
KBC/EC Firmware Revision : 1.05.07

would be nice to know if I9 cpus is compatible with this bios, mine had this when i9 cpus was available so there could be a chance.

the one from the site : https://my.hidrive.com/share/yze8mg-wf8#$/BIOS and EC Firmware/CLEVO/P_Series/P7xx_Series/P7xxTMx/P7xxTM1(G)

also found this forum too : https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Clevo-P775TM1-G-BIOS?page=14

Very sorry about this, I know I have the answers in front of me but it's a bit of a head ache to see many ways to flash bios and being unsure if one or the other will brick your pc.

edit- nope i9 cpus only produce black screen, went back to my i7 8700k cpu for now.

In truth the answers are all over the internet, you just need to have due diligence and stick to it. With that, the best we can do is guide them to info. If your laptop isn't expendable, you should forgo the BIOS update and the GPU upgrade since there's a risk that BIOS updating can and will result in an expensive paperweight if things go awry.

Appreciate the help but I can't exactly just forgo the bios update, especially since theres a chance that my gtx 1080 could die at some point and I have to replace it with something else(an rtx 2080 could be my only choice too)
