Notepad++ Uses symbols and Random Words (Can't find text)

I've been trying to enable console commands for Dragon Age Origins (Ultimate edition) to change my character talents.
Each time i try to find the text "<true action="execute" file="${BINARIES_DIR}\DAOrigins.exe" path="${BINARIES_DIR}" autoquit="true" />"
(Without quotations)
It says it cannot find it.

That's because when i open the launcher with Notepad++ all the content is either "nul" spammed thousands of times with no real letters to search for.
So am i doing something wrong - it seems like everyone else gets it after being explained to on forums.

I don't know what i'm doing really.
Seems like i've got something different or i'm just not doing something right.
Hopefully it is a simple issue. I have very little patience for computer stuff.
I know it isn't the way to go when dealing with computers

According to this, you only need to add a bit at the end of the path in launcher properties and choose a keyboard button for the console.
