Notes to LARS et al.

I think it would be nice to consolidate some of the things that we would like to see added to the THG Graphics reviews area of THG. What are some of the reviews/test/issues you would like to have 'tooked into'.

I guess first is one that has been on the backburner in here for some time.

- The power consumption comparison; with all these new cards with power connectors and PSU rquirements, what should we expect?

Next, In light of the 'NEW' generation of cards I would like to see;

- Another extensive 'VGA CHART' that is specific to DX8.1 and DX9 (or even just DX9) cards with a wider variety of games than we currently see as standard (yeah I can get 30 reviews about the FPS in UT2K3, but few other games), how about adding 'different' and older games to the list. Maybe a game or two like EA NHL 2003 or Racing games, just to give us a comprehensive list since not everyone plays the same games.

Perhaps;

- A quality comparison between settings (all of them) running few tests with diff. drivers.

- Add a FireGL, Quadro, and Wildcat Proffesional cards to a Game Test to show off interesting 'anomalies' and if the pro cards are capable of 'occasional' gaming.

Well, those are my 'requests'/interests. Just a friendly 'hey could you...?'

I'd like to see what you all would add too.

I'd like to see temp charts, overclockability (related to the temps), warming of cards (not OC'ed) to see at what temp artefacts start appearing, and also a little on each cards heatsink and how easily replicable it is (water or fan cooling).

I'd also like the tests to be more standard so that a year or 2 down the road we can more easily see how it compares to todays cards (or yesterdays) and not just how fast it can run the latest games.

btw Grape, <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=faq&notfound=1&code=1" target="_new">this one's</A> for you. 😉

That pretty much sums what I also wanted (save for the fact I inspired you with the power consumption chart  ).

Lars should update what he is trying or considering.

I would like to see more attention paid to game image quality. FPS is important to a point, but once every card is running 50+ frames a second it doesn't really matter as much as how good the game looks after that. By the review here, you'd think the 5900ultra just thrashed the 9800pro, but it's not that simple. After looking at images over at hardocp, there's other things to consider (jagged edges, etc.). Not that I'm not impressed by the 5900, just that there's a lot more that should be considered when making a review than FPS.

Yeah, a good old-fashioned subjective appraisal of image quality in both 2D and 3D would be nice.

I would also like to second (or third, or fourth) the motion to include min FPS in all tests.

yeah there was a Detonator that improved GFFX performance right after its release, but only because the texutre detail default was lowered. the card actually wasnt any faster...

i think i said that in another post here on page one, but watever ill spam

Hey, hey! Eden don't get all excited now.

Actually I was simply condensing as much as I could what you and CasualCat said regarding power consumption (you Ba$tard ya' made me dig up an old post I'll steal what I want! )

And since you stole my title, I just have to demand the rematch under the rules of th WBC. I am waiting for the perfect time, and I think I have it. But like the Matrix, you will have to wait, but there will be no blue pill, you will be in for the ride like it or not. Welcome to the Unreal world. 😎

I forgot about Min FPS, should put that in the original, but that's why I left it open ended and requesting input.

The other thing I wouldn't mind seeing I guess is a quick 'overclock' comparison. But maybe the plate is getting full. I just hope that basically once the thread has had a chance to mature (keep contributing ay thoughts people) then someone will let us know if they read/got it. Otherwise may have to just PM a head's up.

Anything else?

And Then?

And Then?

somebody stop me!!

Cleeve, yeah I did see a review like that (and posted it here a while back [poor review IMO]); the problem I had with it (other than the limited tests they ran) is that prices change so much.
Would you compare retail? OEM from Pricewatch at time of posting?

Anwyhoo, I too think it would be neat to get a basic idea. Watch the R9000/GF4MX win.

HEHehe! Sorry Dude! No wait that was from another post, just plain Hehehe. I like that. Yes how about reading suggestions like this, instead of just doing house cleaning. Someone must have been in here.

Add to the list, a Sound Test effect on FPS. I saw once of those on a 2card tes, it would be neat to see the effect on the best cards. Does onboard vs PCI make much diff. etc.

PF, he was refering to them deleting GeneticWeapon's post, all the while this was sitting there with nary a response from the THG team. Therefore leading many of us to beleive that they are more interested in window-washing than in reading what forum members have to contribute, or what they'd like to see.

I guess we're just not pissed off enough. When LARS wrote the questionable article about Futuremark vs Nvidia the THG crew was in here pretty quick. But I guess suggestions and constructive criticism from loyal readers don't warrant enough attention compared to rants. Perhaps another thread is needed with cursing in the title, then we know they will at least read the title before deleting (unlesss the just update their autobotz.

Kinda dissapointing really.

So Why no power consumption Chart Yet ?!? These guys seem able to do it!

Use babel on : <A HREF="http://www.computerbase.de/article.php?id=227" target="_new">THIS</A>

C'mon! You guys can do it I'm sure. And please include the Radeon 9600Pro if you do.

I'd like to see an article pertaining to the whole cheating situation, along with a definition to "cheating," along with solutions to all of them. Then I'd like to see comparisons of old vs. new (cheating vs. not cheating). Finally, I'd LOVE a new VGA charts.
