Hello today I have ran into a problem on my hp notebook, I downloaded a program and just before finalising I get a pop up about registry keys of some sort with the options of allow, try again and cancel. I didn’t take much notice of the error becaus I didn’t think nothing of it. So sorry about lack of info on actual error. I restarted my laptop. All seems well as the login screen picture shows and I can tap in my password to access the desktop. Within ten seconds of seeing the desktop the screen goes black with just a cursor which is movable. Control. Alt delete work but task manager does t show up. What is the problem?
I’ve searched and searched and come to no solution.

Things I have read and tried to no avail

Boot up and wait for 10 minutes of black screen to see if picture desktop works again.

Roll back system to previous restore point. Only had two system restore points and both of them fail due to error 0x80070091 appxstaging.

Tried booting up in safe mode but the screen goes black on there aswel.

Press and hold power button and removed battery.

Please can somebody help me come to a solution?

Sorry if I’m not clear with my post. Thankyou so much for reading

Keri

If your familiar with running a SFC check on safe mode on system files that may be corrupted and stopping the system restore, it may help.

If your unable to reach safe mode, Restart the computer then hold f11 at the boot screen, this should take you to the advanced options for trouble shooting. Once in advanced options, select refresh your pc, this will restore your system to factory settings deleting only applications and not personal files.

If you are unable to refresh the pc, you may have to access the hard drive from another computer to extract the pictures before resetting or performing a clean install. Hope this helps.
Can be a few things causing this but I would think you ran into some malware. I've had some experience with malware affecting the Windows Explorer and Windows Apps registry associated with your inability to system restore.

What program did you download from where?

Thankyoufor your answer, the program was Iexplored, a program to help me get some
Photos off my iPhone. I had avast running while downloading. Is there any way I can get up and running again without losing my files as there’s irreplaceable photos of my daughter I just simply can’t loose. I Appreciate your help, thankyou

Thankyou for your time mate, I’ve succsesfully extracted pictures and videos now I’m just going to re install windows and cut my losses. I’ve tried doing it via system recovery option by pressing f11 on startup and it tells me it can’t be done. I’ve tried command prompts and stuff and every way possible. So I’m assuming a need a windows 10 repair recovery reinstall disk to bypass this? Thankyou dearly
