i put my friends pc together but he didnt order a hard disk drive because he salvaged it from an old pc. when it booted up everything was fine but the wifi wasn't working. i hooked it up to the ethernet and it still didn't work. after troubleshooting the error the universal serial bus controller wans't working or something that needed to be updated but nothing was working. so i thought something was wrong with the mother board, i put the hard disk drive in my pc to see if it would work but still same problem. i put my hard disk drive back in and now my internet and wifi won't work, no files will open. sorry this is hard to explain and i will try to post pictures of the errors when trying to trouble shott and run stuff!

Did you just pull the drive from an older system and put it in or did you format it and reload the os and drivers.
If you just pulled it and put it in you really should reload everything with all the different hardware in it now.
Also as stated above if it was oem windows it is then married to the motherboard if it is retail you need to reload it and re authenticate it.

sorry if i misunderstood but you think i should reinstall windows?

on both pc...boot the drive into safe mode. go into device manager and remove all of the devices there..then reboot. when you reboot make sure you have the mb driver cd or the drivers for the mbs on a usb stick. you have to start with the intel chipset drivers. or amd chipset drivers. then ethernet..sound and wifi. when all of the drivers are installed and there no yellow !! if your pc comes back as activated you should be fine..if not you need to contact microsoft for them to reset or to give you a new windows code. for your firend if he has a retail copy of windows he have to call ms and get a new oem code he have to tell them his mb died and was replaced.

ok ill try this

and is this process always necessary for changing hardware

with windows it let you change hard drive and sound cards without issue. the issue is with mb your changing the chipset and device drivers that are loaded into windows. as a tech when you have to do a mb change your better off backing up your data and doing a nuke and pave on windows and starting fresh. a lot of gamers are smart when they have ssdd and hard drive in there rig. there able to move there personal data to the data drive then wipe the os drive.

under device manager i uninstall the devices (ex. under network adapters, i uninstall everything under it?)

ah shit um i deleted one of the usb drivers :0 now i can't use the mouse and kb
....ohkey i restarted keyboard and mouse r back

Do i remove the HID section?
