Notice my CPU spikes when processing video

Hey folks,

I'm a reader of Tom's Hardware quite often and have never made an account until tonight. I've been experiencing problems with my PC for about a year now and to the best of my knowledge have not made any significant changes to my system other than routine maintenance and such.

However I have noticed over this last year that my CPU usage spikes and both processors read above 90% use when doing streaming video(on occasion) but mostly during games like Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3.

I have read as much as I can about the problem and have not found an answer. At first I thought it was because the new blizzard games don't like multi-core processors but later learned that was an incorrect theory. I thought it might be my graphics card but it renders beautifully still and I found it only seems to act up during times where I'm accessing both processors. This leads me to believe it could be my CPU or my Memory. I'm really inexperienced with computers and hardware so I'd like to figure out how to go about resolving this.

I don't have money for a new machine or an upgrade to my existing one because I'm a student. I'm hoping to find a rather simple solution to my problem so I can enjoy my PC more.

Any discussion relating to this would be welcome. I'm terribly tired of PC problems.

Thanks folks,

Gravitor

CPU spikes when doing heavy stuff like video processing or playing heavy games is pretty normal. I dont think your CPU is new and powerful enough.
You should update your processor.
