I just got a 1440p 144hz monitor and I was looking to upgrade my gaming rig. I wasn't sure if I should wait to buy a GPU because black Friday is coming up. I was also stuck on getting the 1070ti for $400, 1080 for $450, or 2070 for $500. I heard that the prices of the 1080ti might go down soon as well. If they did I was looking to pick a 1080ti up. I know GPU prices have fluctuated a lot with bitcoin mining and I'm just trying to pick up a new GPU for the best price. I have a 960 right now so I would like to upgrade soon. Are there any suggestions where a good place to get one would be? I've looked on Ebay but they didn't seem to be legit. I just wish crypto currency would fail and all these stupid crypto miners would stop buying all the GPU's.

Actually, it is a great time to buy a graphics card. Prices are awesome right now. Many cards are selling very close to their original pricing, some are selling for less. Buy new with these prices. That way you aren't taking any chances. I just saw a GTX 1070Ti for $409 on NewEgg. Prices are freaking GREAT right now! I just wish I had a reason to upgrade.

From everything I have been reading mining with a gpu is pointless now. Prices have slowly falling back in line. I recall seeing many rx580 8gb and 1060 6gb for 200- 280 vs 500+ before

For you it's a good time to get a new GPU because good deals exist and you are using a 960 that can't come close to making use of the display.

The only thing I would say as far as waiting would be to see how a 2060 performs., but if you know you are going higher then 400 on a 1070ti is a good price.

The other day I saw a PC World article where they were excited that the RX 570 was something like $140, which is cheaper than when I bought my RX 470 before the 570 launched.

There are some really good prices out there right now. Heck I was looking more and I found a GTX 1080 for $430.

I think you shouldn't wait for two reasons. One, prices are pretty good right now, so it's not like you're buying during a mining peak. Second, when you decided to get a 1440p high refresh rate monitor you also decided to buy a new videocard, whether you realized it or not. Getting that monitor makes no sense, for gaming, if you weren't prepared to upgrade your card.

Back in Sept of 2016 you could get GTX1070s for $350, new, that is when I got 2 of them. No prices are no where close to good. Price are better than Dec 2017/Jan 2018 when the same GTX 1070 wend for $700. After 2+ years you think that the GTX 1070ti should be around $299, but you'd be lucky to get one at $350.

So it is a particularly good time to buy GPUs, not really. The prices have finally got back to MSRP, and some people think that is like heaven..... What can you say?
