Now where would my monitor cable go?

Ok, i have an old generic PSU that looks like this

You see it has a socket for a monitor...
Now i would like to upgrade my PSU with a new branded PSU
but after seeing some of the pics they dnt include socket for monitors?

Now after i buy a new PSU where would my monitor cable goes to draw power? sorry noob about hardwares...

You will need to replace the monitor cable with a PSU style power cable. The monitor end will unplug.

Modern PSUs don't have the power socket that is usually used by monitors. i'd say plug the socket to the power outlet, the same way you plugged your PSU.

Get a power cord just like your PC uses and plug the monitor directly into the wall.

The only reason older PSU's had a special outlet for the monitor was for people who wanted the monitor to be switched on and off by the computer switch itself. The only function of the special outlet is to do the switching. There is NOTHING special about the power output from it - it is just wall power at 120 VAC. So it is better to get a plain cord as nocheese said and plug into the wall directly. You just have to remember to use the power switch on the monitor - not too hard.

If you have a REALLY old monitor with a power cord that is permanently attached to it and has only the special plug on its end for that old PSU outlet, you can just cut the special plug off the end and install your own standard wall plug on the cord.

I'd just call it a standard computer power cord. Any computer parts shop will have them. Try a used parts shop - they usually have too many lying around and it ought to be cheap.

Actually your old monitor plug that is plugged into the PSU right now has the same plugs needed to plug directly into the wall or surge suppressor - just unplug it from the old PSU and plug it into either your surge protector (best choice since it will prevent power spikes\surges) or directly into the wall (not recommended but can be done if the wall outlet has surge protection)

Thats why i cant just plugged it directly to an outlet, can i just cut off that part that blocks that metal thing and plug it to an outlet?

Nah.. save yourself from the trouble and just buy the right cord. Try paperdoc's suggestion and buy at the surplus shop.

Yep - you can just cut that shroud off of the end of the cable using a set of wire cutters or an exacto knife or box cutter or just buy a new power cord (or if you have an old system use the power cord from it !)
