NUMBER Keys except 5 and 6 wont work in top row on keyboard.[ numpad keys works fine]

Only 5 and 6 number keys work. my compaq keyboards number keys on the top row above keypad wont work except 5 and 6 .?
i have googled this problem and alot of people got the exact same problem only 5 and 6 keys on the top row above keypad works remaining wont work at all 1,2,3,4,7,8,9 wont work.
I am sure this is not a hardware problem , not keyboard getting old,etc
some wierd software issue.
I did update my windows, RUN different antivirus for scan,etc nothing helped

If it isn't hardware related, then they work in the BIOS or when you boot Windows or Linux from a DVD.

What do you mean? Did you flash a modded BIOS that could have caused the issue? If not, then does the keyboard work fine in the BIOS (test it in a field where you can type an owner name or a computer name, but don't save the info) or when you boot from a DVD or a USB key?

Hi everyone!

I finally solved my problems and would like to share the solution.

First: NONE of my Number Keys (1,2,3,4,7,8,9,0), found above the letters, and under the function keys, were working, EXCEPT (5 & 6) on my Macbook Pro. The special characters like !@# found above the numbers weren't working either.

Solution: I read a suggestion from someone, to PRESS the OPTION button/key on your keyboard 5 TIMES very quickly. I did this and all the number keys that werent previously working started working again. HOWEVER, the numbers 5 & 6 that were working before, stopped working. I then tried PRESSING the OPTION key 5 TIMES AGAIN which ultimately solved everything. Now all my number keys work.

Although, I would still like to know why this is happening in the first place. I still want to understand the problem so i can avoid triggering this kind of problem again in the future. I still don't think it's a problem with the keyboard but a problem with the software.
