Number keys not recognized

Has anyone heard of the number key on the keyboard not registering when typing a password, but the same digit on the number pad registers ie: Th1s the one was entered from the number pad but when using the same digit on the top of the keyboard it types in but isn't recognized.

Yes. I have a very similar model, same manufacturer laptop as my client. I have never seen this happen before. Even my desktop keyboard has the number lock on; no issues there either. Both machines register the number pushed no matter which way I enter it; the number pad or the upper row of the keyboard.
