Number of Partions on disk.

Hello,
The specifications of my laptop are as below.

Asus K55VM-SX086D / 3rd Generation Core i7 3610QM / 8 GB / 1 TB/ NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M

Operating system - currently dos-- will load windows 7 home premium shortly

Purpose-- Gaming(Enthusiast) ,Large volumes of Multimedia(Movies,Tv shows) ,CPU Consuming programs (MAT LAB, Cadian, Auto Cad)


How many partions must I make while loading Windows 7 for the first time?

3? If please specify approximate sizes (GBs) ...

most people suggest that the OS be in a separate partion. why is that ? why do you suggest one only ?

really there is no need. folks think if they partition for just the OS it will save them time if they ever have to re-install the OS; it doesn't. your better off re-installing everything so to avoid any conflicts.
