Numerous Clone Attempts fail with Read Error??

I have cloned lots of hard drives but this one has me stumped. I am cloning a physical drive to SSD which is very straight forward. It has two partitions and plenty of space. Drives are the same size. However while cloning the main partition which is 400gb, it always fails and I get read errors. I have used Windows cloning tools (Macrium, EaseUS, MiniTool Partition) and even tried Clonzeilla from a USB boot which also produced the same results.

I ran checkdisk on the drive and it did find errors but fixed them. I am at a lot now and any suggestions would be great. Thanks, Brendan

have you run manufacturers diagnostics on the drive?

Use Ctrl, AltGr and delete keys together to terminate any programs or processes currently shown as running in the system tray as a back ground task.

Any firewall, anti virus software that is running and using real time memory protection should also be disabled.
Or the real time memory scanning option disabled before you try to clone the working Os drive.
If the cloning of the partition or the system partition is done within widows os running.

I forgot to mention that I am cloning a laptop drive to another laptop SSD via my desktop. I have two 2.5" drive bays. I have swapped them just to make sure that it was not something in the bays.

have you run manufacturers diagnostics on the drive?

I can't find any on the laptop for HP tools. I have used several other drive tools and all report no issues.
