nV to make an FX5600XT?

A list of Gigabyte cards reveals the FX5600XT nomenclature?

WTF?

They say mimicry is the sincerest form of flatery but really!?!

XT sux as an ending IMO (remind me of IBM computers), and now there will be 2 of them! :frown:

This is an IDEAL way for nVidia to cut into ATI sales! Wow! Think about this:

1.) Typical buyers have more experience with nVidia products and will assume ATI's XT is slower than standard, refusing to buy it. This hurts ATI's sales.
2.) People familiar with what XT means on ATI cards will see the bargain priced nVidia XT cards and buy them, thinking they're also better. This helps nVidia's sales!

So this deception does nothing but good for nVidia, a shrewd move!

Assuming an uninformed consumer would choose the 5600 XT seems very likely to me.

I don't know how many computer ignorants you guys have ever talked to, but think about how many noobs on this forum have assumed that a 256 meg GeforceFX 5200 is better than a 128 meg Radeon 9600 PRO.
Bigger number must = better performance, right?
Or how about all those consumers who chose a 5200 over a Ti4200 because the 5200 has 8x AGP?

Joe consumer is uninformed. And if they saw a 9600 XT with 128 megs of ram and 8x AGP, and a 5600 XT with 128 megs of RAM and 8x AGP, and the 5600 XT was $50 cheaper... well, which one do you think they're goona choose?

------------------
Radeon 9500 (hardmodded to PRO, o/c to 322/322)
AMD AthlonXP 2400+ (o/c to 2600+ with 143 fsb)
3dMark03: 4055

exactly.

thats why i have fvcking dispised nVidia for ever sinse "MX" line was introduced.

their marketing ALWAYS has decieving its customers high on the agenda. instead of offering a good product at a good price point, they lie.

im not saying ATI doenst do this ... but ATI isnt the discusion here. nVidia is just plain disgusting in teh way they conduct business

Hehe, the MX name was funny because it subconsciously infers the word "MAX" in the minds of the uninformed.

Man that would be frickin' smart. So I bet it's actually a Gigabyte idea (like their Maya cards), and don't call me biased cause I own a Gigabyte board, and wanna buy another one!

I wouldn't let ATi off the hook so easy phial and TKS. Even though the FX series of cards perform like sh!t right now, ATi currently has one of the most confusing, (may I say deceptive?) naming conventions I have seen in ages. Here have a look:

8500LE
8500
9000
9000 Pro
9100
9200
9500
9500 Pro
9600
9600 Pro
9600 XT
9700
9700 Pro
9800
9800 Pro
9800 XT

As much as I would like to say the above list is straightforward in terms of performance & features, I cannot agree. This list, which would seem logical to the average end-user is ludicrously far from accurate. I do not feel like going into all the details at the moment, because we all know approximately how the list should be arranged. I cannot say that ATi's naming schemes are less deceptive than nVidia's current bucket of crap cards. In fact, nVidia's FX line is far more accurately "numbered" in terms of relative perfomance than ATi's stuff. I'm not suggesting an FX card, far from it. But I've got to admit that I'm not impressed with either nVidia's(in the past with GF4MX line) and ATi's(current "R300" based line) marketting names for their products.
