We had the chance to take a look at nVIDIA's new babies
I wonder why the author of the article would shoe even this much optimism at a crappy FX launch. I know I haven't seen benchmarks and IQ tests, but an NV3X is an NV3X, which mean that alot will be inherited from the original NV30. So I won't be expecting too much out of these "babies".

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

Well the sad thing is just like that PCI-EX article I posted mentioned, INTEL says that with the amount of pwer needed and heat generated, all future PCI-EX graphics cards will need a cooling solution similar to this, that draws in outside air and expells hot air elsewhere. They specifically mention this as a 'roadmap' for case designers and the direction that INTEL expects them to go (especially in light of their BTX stuff), and usually in this area what INTEL sas become industry standard.

So unfortunately even ATI may end up with something like this. Hopefully it will be an elegant and quiet design, or else Voodoo's water cooling system is in my next rig.

They are still nascent cards, so they are still nV's babies. The act that they may be ugly and schtoopid babies doesn't change that.

And watch what you say, we may have to hold our tongue about your kids too. EEEeeewwww, err I mean OOOOOooo, interesting child. 😱

I'm sorry, what you said in your last post was very unclear to me. WOuld you mind rephrasing that for the challenged?

Since Cards NEW, they still babies, even though we think these babies should be still-born.

ie. they are new, therefore they are babies, despite all the flaws they have.

Good enough?

I still don't understand.

Are you saying that stillborn babies should use Nvidia cards?

Ewww thats ugly! And I thought my 9700p with a cpu heatsink on it was a bit far fetched....

No, I'm saying that if nV were to mate with a Pregnant Yak they'd have a better chance at increasing the PS 2.0 performance of the FX5900U & FX-line than of having a sucesful union.

Or at least that's what I was reading in the National Geographic magazine from last night. nV and the Negev Wastland or Wonderland?

Aha!

So if I understand correctly, a stillborn baby riding a pregnant yak that Nvidia executives have mated with will... uh... Pixel shading... er...

Ah, screw it.

LOL! This was my first expression after seeing the pic of NV38

Just a revamp of current architecture to hold people over till NV40. Nvidia needed new cards on the market for christmas...and this is them.

Nvidia is starting to learn from their mistake...
Same dustbuster but it got tha look and tha styyyle!
hehe

dont worry, they'll be still NV40 to help them.................................... i think -_-

Im with ya on that, im sure Nvidia is goin to work their a$$ off too come up with a nice product. Wether it will be enough is a good question...I hope they will have more elegant solution rather than brute force to make there product faster...
Im still with NV and CS!!!

Looks like they just clocked the NV 35 higher. Without any news regarding a core tweak (much like ATI's r300 to r350), I'm going to assume it's just a higher clocked 5900 Ultra. It will still suck at dx9, no matter how much Nvidia parades it. The Nv 3x just can't do dx 9, no matter how they spin it.

As each day goes by, I hug my 9600Pro just a little tighter.

The NV36 shown, which will be the cheaper of the two, looks to be using an NV30(FX5800) pcb. Which means a high speed 128bit memory bus, and DDR2 memory.
Speculation provided from our friends at Beyond3D.com.
This is the board that I myself find interesting, depending on the price point(FX5600U replacement)

How well would it perform with the 128bit bus??
Has to offer more power than the 5900U...
I never saw any DX9 bench for a 5800U . Is the 128bit bus and the rather low memory bandwith would affect DX9 even more?
Only speculation again...Im wondering how this card will perform.

basically everyone should wait for NV40, cause if they screw up NV40, they're done
