[SOLVED] Nvenc on 900 and 1000 series cards

Hey everyone, i dont know if this is the right section to ask in, but my friend wants me to build him a PC. He wants new parts (like ryzen etc) and wants to livestream. I dont know how powerful of a ryzen cpu id be able to get at his budget, so i was wondering if i could get a GTX 970 or 1060 for streaming. I've heard Nvenc 1 isnt good, so would i be better to focus on CPU or GPU for this build?

First version of nvenc was in the 600 series
nvenc is fine is you have enough bandwidth and certainly better than anything a lower cpu could manage.

think a 960 or 970 would work fine for 720p streaming? He's gonna be on WiFi not ethernet btw

Any one of those cards could do 1080/60 and even 4k/60 if the cpu can keep up.
Uploading a video through wifi will be a terrible experience unless he has a very good setup, live streaming will certainly be a challenge, do you know how much upload speed he has?

Then tell him to forget about livestreaming until he gets decent internet, the GPU will be enough though, he can record videos to his disk and upload them afterwards until he fixes the internet.

That cpu is basically not much more than a laptop cpu and yes it would hold back any halfway decent GPU,
You should try for at least an r3 3100 or r3 3200 or an intel i3-10100.

ok... what about a 1300X? I found a decent deal on a 1300X (havent bought it yet)

No, a quad core is pretty useless on newer titles.

You want 4c/8t minimum.

Ryzen 2600 is well priced in most countries, that's what you should be aiming for.

The ryzen 3100 is the cheapest 4c/8t cpu but tends to go out of stock a lot of the time.

not sure if the budget would fit a 2600 + 960/970...
