Nvida Geforce 9400 gt need an upgrade help thank you.

Hello all, I have a PC from 2007 and i gotten Nvida Geforce 9400 gt for world of Warcraft. And i Have been using it for world of warcraft right as we speak. The problem is when i do 25 man raids in dungeons my frames per second drop down to 2 from 30 frames per second. I want to know what kind of video card can i get to upgrade my PC.

Can anyone help me please and thank you. Here is some system information.

Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2GB per slot

so i can use DDR2.

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+ 2.40GHz

My gaming score is 4.9 but i Lag so much i don't understand it. I have fast net so i am think a video card upgrade. I max out on ram.

But my Windows Aero Graphics is only 3.6.

I would like to play the new wow cataclysm with no lag and no drops of frames if possible.

Can anyone tell what i can use please for gaming. thank you.

Your single core CPU will hold you back. Upgrading to anything faster than a 9500GT or a 9600GS or a 220GT would be a waste imo.

Your memory is fine, 4gb is great.

I would suggest you look into a descent AM2 dual or tripple core processor off ebay, at least a 4400+ preferably a 5000+

And than you can look into something like a 240GT or 5670.

I know a friend of mine who has a 4400+ x2 cpu with 3gb of ram and 8800GS GPU (a 240GT is very close to this), and wow runs fine for him.

Heck I think I still have my old 4600+ X2 lying around, might just throw it up on ebay 😛

Well, if you ask me, you'll better to safe your money to build a whole new system, your current system is getting old, upgrading a new graphic card isn't going to help you much...
Your CPU will hold back everything, so it's useless buy a new card for that CPU.

If you want to enjoy WoW, you have two options.

1. New (well newer model 😛) processor, at least a AMD Athlon64 X2 4400+ (or a 4600+ 4800+ 5000+ all X2s) and pair that with a new vid card, like a Geforce 240 GT (DDR5 version) or an ATI 5670.

This will allow you to play wow at medium settings with descent frame rates in most areas, dalaran might still drop you to 20 fps, but raids should be mostly at or around 30fps+

2. Get a new motherbaord that will take your ram, like an AM2+/AM3 baord with a 785G chipset, and plug in a cheap Athlon II X2 processor in there (maybe even an X3 if your budget allows) and combine that with either the card I mentioned, or maybe something evne a little stronger, like an ATI 5750/5770 or a Geforce 450GTS. This will alow you to play WoW on high setting with frames of over 30fps everywhere.

Option one will cost your around 80-90$ total if you buy bith used. Option two will cost you double that at least, if not over $200 (around $230 if you go for an X3 and a 5770).

So its all about how much you can spend).

Yes , the 425 X3 is a very descent gaming cpu, its not cutting edge, but it will run most games today with close to high settings. This card is about all you need to max out WoW (at least as far the processor is concerned).

A 450GTS from Nvidia or a 5770 from ATI would both be a great match for the cpu, if your power supply (psu) can handle them.

If you can get me some information from your supply as well as its age, Ic an make a better recommendation for the GPU. I would need the amp on the 12V rail (you might have two numbers here) and the maxx wattage. Both canbe found on a sticker on the side of the PSU.

If I am making a blind recommendation, I would recommend a 5670 from ATI or a 240GT from Nvidia. While this cards are less powerful, they are much more forgiving when it comes to weaker and older PSUs, while still doing a good job for WoW.

P.S. If you are going to built the new system, i recommend scooting over to you tube for some do it yourself videos, they got all kinds of good stuff, including applying the thermal material to the cpu
