Hello everyone! I'm planning to upgrade from my Nvidia 560 ti to a 1070 or 1060. I play Battlefront, Overwatch, and I want to add tons of mods to skyrim and the special edition when it comes out. I only play in 1080p, so I'm not sure if the 1070 is overkill or not. What do y'all think?

if you have money for the 1070 id go with that. i know there are games that even a 980 ti cant max on 1080p (not sure if the games you mentioned were some of them). but if you do want to play the highest settings, and can afford it, i think the 1070 is the way to go. if not... im sure the 1060 will still let you play most games on ultra without breaking a sweat

The GTX 1080 is overkill for 1080P by far. the 1070, kinda and the GTX 1060 will be the bang for the buck, but you won't be getting 200FPS. The GXT 1060 is basically the same performance as a GTX 980 while the GTX 1070 is like a heavily overclocked 980 TI.

depends how old you other pc parts are. If they are 3 - 4 old already stick to the 1060 for 1080p gaming, because spending an additional 200 bucks will be overkill. Save your cash, cos in 2 years time you will probably be upgrading the lot.

Well, when I bought my 780 for gaming at 1080p it was considered overkill at the time and the 770 was the gpu of choice. However having gone for the 780 I was easily able to skip the 9xx series and am only now looking for a gpu to go with a monitor upgrade. A lot of people with the 770 decided they had to get a 9xx card for newer games. So what seems like overkill today might serve you well in the long run but its impossible to say what you will need in the near future.

Agreed 100%. The 1070 maybe be a tiny bit overkill for 1080p at the moment but it won't be in a year or two, or less. I'd go 1070.

I see your point. But my point was if his rig is already 4 years old for example, in a couple years the whole lot might need replacing. I personally think GPUs have mastered 1080p gaming now. So if the 1060 can push 70-80 ffs now it will probably push 60-70 ffs in new games 2 years from now.

If its a 1-2 year old rig with decent specs in the first place (top end i5 4th gen with 8 to 16 GB ram) i would say 1070.

1070 blows the doors off of a 980 ti, stock vs stock, OC vs OC. Not to mention the 1070 has more ram and is still cheaper despite the 980ti being discontinued.

I really don't know what's going on with Nvidia. They should be selling them for at least $50 less than the 1070. But asking for more money? Dayum.

It's overkill for most games. However when I play GTAV with everything set to max, even advanced graphics, I still get frames to drop into the low 50s in mountainous grassy areas.

I too thought about the 1060. But I don't regret the 1070 one bit.
