Nvidia 660Ti & i5 3570k vs Nvida 660 & i7 3770k

Wasnt sure where to put this so Graphics thread is close enough.
Timescale im gonna be buying them within the week.

Im on a pretty tight budget and its a choice between the two in the title which would give me better performance.
Im a gamer mainly playing games like Skyrim ,Farcry 3,COD4 and quite a few other games.

Any help is appreciated.

Also like to say thanks as well been reading through these forums for the past week or so just getting general information as im a complete noob at building computers with the only part me buying previously being a 550Ti GPU and shoving it in a basic Dell machine and the info on these forums has helped immensely in building knowledge on computers.

if you are building this computer specifically to play games the combination of i5 3570k with a gtx 660ti would be enough. the power of the i7 is be visible only in very heavily threaded applications and video encoding and stuff...

it is a good idea to go for the i5 when you are tight on budget. just make sure you get a good mother board.

That class as a good motherboard? Its the only decent one ive found that supports SLi as i plan to twin GPus int he future

An i5 3570k is more suited towards gaming, while the i7 is suited towards things such as video editing. Not enough games utilise the i7's potential for people to get major benefits. Considering most games mostly depend on the GPU nowadays, you would want the best GPU you could get. I personally would get the 660ti and the i5 3570k, it seems more practical. That is also a pretty good motherboard, although this is a great motherboard too, and is very good for overclocking. I have one too.

The only problem with it is that it is 3mm thinner, and the screwholes aren't to normal ATX specifications, meaning that the top right hand side isn't very supported well. Its still a fantastic board, very popular, and great value for money.

Awesome, thanks. i5 it is then, and goddamnit you had to do it, ive been searching online for different parts for about a week constantly changing my mind based on new information, now ive got another choice to make damn you.Looking at it though it has one PCI-E slow at 16x and one at 8x with the asus board only running the second one at 4x how much of a difference does that make?

2 pci express with one at x16 and another at x4 support only crossfire. i have the board which has these spacifactions like asus m5a97 r2.0

if you have a tight budjet then u can go for amd fx processor and radeon 7870 which equalent to your said rig. and takes less price and oc'able than ur rig . i recomend to go for amd

if you want a multi gpu configuration in your system such as crossfire/sli only then does the 2nd pci-e lane matters.
go for a mainboard that is wired for 16x gen 3 on the 1st slot and 8x gen 2 on the 2nd one. In this way you get 8x gen2 bandwidth on both slots in cross fire /sli mode.

boards with 16x bandwidth on both slots are expensive and makes sense going for only if you are a hard core gamer and want to run crossfire/sli in its full glory.

I'd strongly recommend sticking with your i5/GTX660 Ti combo. +1 to sidd about the PCI-E lanes - 8 per card is ample. 4 lanes on a card will hurt performance.
