Nvidia 970 or 980?

Hey guys,

I have asked a question about these two cards not long ago and decided to get the 980 MSI but then I saw people saying for the difference between the two the extra £200 isn't worth what you're getting, so...could you lovely people give me your opinions if you think the 980 is worth the extra £200 or should I stick with the 970 MSI Gaming edition?.

I was comparing the MSI 970 and 980 and they seem very similar in specs, of course 980 is better but is it worth the large amount more?. Now I am perfectly fine with spending the extra money but if it's for a slightly better card then I'd rather keep the extra money and go with the 970 .

GTX 970 is an awesome card .I is only 10% slower than GTX 980 . My choice is GTX 970

Worth is something only YOU can determine.

If the extra price is not a big problem for you, I say buy the GTX980.
If you don't, you will forever wonder if you should have.

I have rarely regretted paying a premium for the best.
I have often regretted paying less for something not as good.

Actually the 980 is a good 20% faster than the 970. (Although that still makes the 970 the better card per value.)

Fair points. If what you say is true "20% better" then I can certainly justify paying the extra for the 980. Thank you for your opinions lads .

You have to realize that high-end products are NEVER good value per dollar. This is the case with anything, from cars to food to gpus. Usually, going from the second best, to the best requires an exponentially larger effort, hence the increases cost and lower value.

If you want the best, get the best. Don't settle for something cheaper because its a better value, because you will always regret not getting the best.

That is very true. It's a fair bit more expensive but 20% better is also a decent difference...still 50/50 blah hate making decisions!

You don't need the 20% extra performance if you play on a 1080p 60Hz monitor; if you play on 1440p for example then the extra performance is nice.

Uhh you dont need the 20% ? everyone acts like 1080p isnt demanding at all.there will be games that the 970 will not max out at 1080p in the near future where having a 980 would still let you max that game out.

Hm ok, that's overall then, I was looking at the fps in the demanding games in tests, and there it's around 15 to 20% (the difference is bigger at higher resolutions).
