So, GRID has moved from "a hardware-oriented product designed to sell integrated systems into a software product designed to be licensed for use on machines from approved vendors" to what? What did they transition the technology to?

The Quadro VCA is still available from solution partners. The big difference now is that you can buy the hardware and any of the software sets from the same channel. So far as I know, the DGX-1 is still an NVidia only product, but I could be wrong about that.
