News Nvidia asks US government to ease AI GPU export rules, but Trump administration plans tighter controls

Not even Nvidia itself could have thought about a similar monopoly, if anything else because Huang understands where it will lead his company. Country after country will refuse to bow to Drumpf's dictum and Huawei will keep expanding its user base. Sasuga, Make China Great Again!

If China is capable of building replacement products, you are simply helping them by creating a market for it, because the demand exists, but American companies are forbidden to compete.

Unlike Canadians who are compromised by China, USA gov knows that offering the best computing resources to China is not a good long term plan.
Huang is just selfish and wants more fast and easy money, he doesn't care about anything else.
I'd say that banning China from Nvidia's Chips is the worse long term and short term plan. It both damages Nvidia financially (in short term with immediate loss in buyers, and long term since they lose marketshare to local competition) and pushes China to be self sufficient in producing their own compute, reducing the amount of influence that the US has on Chinese compute resources in the future.

This presumes an eternal state where the USA will always have the best computing resources on tap.

Going by anti-intellectual trends gaining steam here, if a long-term plan exists, it’s not the most coherent plan.

I teach the cream-of-the-crop, so I’m sort of insulated from the average, but the news doesn’t bode well for the future generations to come.

If the USA makes the addressable market for some of their companies small enough, they will loose in the long term.
Why not apply the same logic to the Boeing company? Would that be beneficial to Boeing? And for the USA?

The tightening of supposed US technology have been tightening during the first term of Trump and have been getting tighter even under Biden. So in my opinion, I don't believe these limitations will get relaxed anytime if ever.

His primary role is to keep the board happy. And their primary role is to keep the shareholders happy.

Any questions?
