nvidia -> ATI switch

Hi everyone, first time posting. I'm making a jump from a 32MB Geforce2 GTS to a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro (I don't upgrade often), and I hear there're driver issues switching from nVidia to ATI cards. What exactly is the process going to be, do I uninstall the nvidia drivers first then swap cards, uninstall the drivers after I swap, or does it even matter? I also hear that I need some app like Detonator Destroyer or something to "exorcise" the remaining nVidia remnants, where's that fit in? Thanks.

Hello, to avoid problems definately take a few minutes to properly uninstall the drivers. You should download the latest <A HREF="http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html" target="_new"> ATI Drivers </A>and detonator destroy or <A HREF="http://download.guru3d.com/detonator-rip/" target="_new"> Detonator R.I.P. </A>, before doing anything else.

1) with the GTS in, uninstall the Nvidia drivers using add/remove programs in control panel.

2) shut down and swap cards.

3) reboot using the R9800 Pro.

4) Use Detonator R.I.P to remove old driver nasties.

5) Load the ATI Drivers following the directions.

6) Reboot, test, and PLAY.

Detonator destroyer may only be for Win9X/ME. Use Detonator destroyer after the regular uninstall of the nvidia drivers.

There's a new utility which can clean up both ATI and nVidia files. I think it's called Driver Cleaner.

Whenever I change video cards, I prefer to do clean installs (uninstall then reinstall) of chipset drivers, video drivers, and DirectX. You'll need DirectX Eradicator (<A HREF="http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=626" target="_new">try here</A>) for the last.

Clean install of all three just makes the transition smoother and more reliable (in my opinion).
