Is this by chance a laptop? I got the same error dialog when Windows 10 Update replaced my vendor-provided Nvidia Optimus drivers with newer (but non-Optimus) Nvidia drivers.

Optimus laptops use the Nvidia GPU as a co-processor. It's not even connected to the screen (the Optimus drivers transfer a completed frame to the Intel GPU, which displays it on the screen). So installing the regular Nvidia drivers will cause all sorts of problems. You have to use your vendor-provided Nvidia drivers.

Otherwise, try completely uninstalling any older graphics drivers before installing new ones. Sometimes older cruft sticks around causing problems. Especially if you upgraded video cards. Even if you upgrade from an Nvidia card to an Nvidia card, you need to remove old drivers and install new ones. Each Nvidia card has different capabilities, and the driver install process enables/disables different features depending on which card it detects.
