Hello Community,

I have an EVGA geforce gtx 1080tTI GPU. When i try to enter the control panel for the GPU it says NVIDIA DISPLAY SETTINGS NOT AVAILABLE. I tried deleting all the NVIDIA folders in my system, I ran display driver uninstaller in safe mode and deleted all drivers. Then i reinstalled the latest drivers from the NVIDIA web page, still nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

CPU i7 7700k
Motherboard ASUS Z270E Gaming motherboard

Solution

That's cool- we were all new at one time!

Yes- it's not enough to simply have the card in your system- you must connect the monitor to the card directly through one of the card's ports. That card has numerous ports (all 1080 Ti and other cards do), but the DVI port is the only one that "sticks out" and therefore might recognizable to a "newbie"; the rest are considered female ports. If you...

Have you confirmed that the card is actually working, through something like gpu-z or Afterburner?

I suppose the Nvidia installer wouldn't have allowed the driver install during its "System Compatibility" check anyway. I obviously have no experience with this particular issue, so I'm afraid you'll have to wait for someone who's had this problem and conquered it to come along.

Last silly question: Have you actually rebooted again after reinstalling the latest drivers?

Try connecting to the monitor using a different port on your card- unless you're using the one and only DVI port. I've read that may fix the issue.

This is probably a really stupid question but here it goes. I'm new to the PC gaming community so be gentle. I haven't connected my GPU to my monitor through any ports on my GPU. I only have a DVI-I port visible on the card. Do i need to connect the DVI-I to the monitor for it to work? Also, would DVI-I to display port be the best connection?

Yes- it's not enough to simply have the card in your system- you must connect the monitor to the card directly through one of the card's ports. That card has numerous ports (all 1080 Ti and other cards do), but the DVI port is the only one that "sticks out" and therefore might recognizable to a "newbie"; the rest are considered female ports. If you don't see any other ports still after reading my description, they must be covered by the mounting brackets on the back of your computer case.

I would use whatever cable you already own if you have any- DVI, HDMI or display port. Unless your monitor is 4K or has a high refresh rate (which I'm assuming it isn't or you'd know) then they all work equally well. If you have to buy one then display port is the current popular choice. You have to check your monitor too- it may not have all those different ports as connection options.

Solution

Hmm, well then you're going to have to do some surgery and cut away some of the bracket to expose at least one of the other ports. This will unfortunately likely require you to disconnect and remove the card, but since you're so new to the community, I'd guess that you may want to seek some help on this. Do you have any friends who may be more knowledgeable about this?

It's not that complicated- you basically need to get the card out of the way so you can snip off a "strip" of the bracket. And actually, if you remove the two screws connecting the card to the bracket, you may be able to slide the bracket out and cut it without removing the card at all. It's very hard to say since I can't see it, however.

Sorry- I should have thought of this sooner and didn't read one of your posts as thoroughly as I should have. Just buy an adaptor that turns DVI into an HDMI port. Simple and no fuss. Here's a link for a US-based Amazon page. If you live in a different country, search for DVI to HDMI adapter. They are very inexpensive.

You didn't mention that your monitor is 144Hz. It's best to provide as many details up front as possible to get the right answers the first time. :)

This should work for DP:

HDMI 2.0 can also do 144HZ so you can go that route too, but make sure your monitor is certified HDMI 2.0 and you will also need specifically an HDMI 2.0 cable.

So i connected my DVI-D to displayport converter to my graphics card and the displayport outlet on my monitor. Still the NVIDIA control panel won't open and says Nvidia display settings are not available. Any other suggestions?
