I have just purchased a ROG gtx 1080 Strix, and when I try to install the drivers for the card I get this error: https://images.drivereasy.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Fix-nvidia-installer-failed-2.jpg
I had this error since before I bought the card, on my EVGA 1060, but since I didn't absolutely need to update my drivers I ignored the issue. Now that I have a new GPU I need to fix this.
These are the things I've tried:
Installing driver in safe mode
uninstalling previous drivers with DDU and driver sweeper
doing above in safe mode, then restarting and trying to install drivers
installing old versions of the drivers
installing the driver that came on the disc with my gpu
all met with the same error message above
PC specs:
Gigabyte z170 mobo
16gb ddr4 ram
600w thermaltake psu
(now) ROG strix gtx 1060 8gb (previously, same problem) EVGA 1060 6gb
i5 6600k
I've been at this for probably 8 hours now, trying different combinations of the things I tried above. A clean windows install is looking like the best option at this point.
Thank you for all the help, I will check this thread in the morning.
