Okay first of all let me say how big of a disappointment AMD is. Their new graphics cards suck. Also their fury x needs that stupid annoying radiator fan that gets in the way and the card is just bad in general even the 980ti's and Titan X's destroy it. Anyway okay back to Nvidia DSR. I am using a 1080p 144hz gaming monitor 1ms response time. I really enjoy it. I just finally figured out what DSR was and I started to use it. I changed my desktops resolution to 1440p (everything looks a lot smaller, but A LOT better) and when I play games everything looks so much better graphics wise and I don't know how? Like does my monitor turn into a 1440p monitor? How does it actually work please. I know it takes a huge performance hit in games. A lot of my older games I am playing look better thanks to this DSR feature. It just seems too good to be true. Anyway would love some more information on what DSR is please. Thank you!

Glad someone else can see the difference. I use it and I think it looks great, even on my 1080P monitor that I use sometimes because it's 144hz and the 1440p I have is only 60hz. But I DSR up to 4k and it looks great. Just FYI, you don't have to have your desktop set at the higher resolution through DSR, you can leave it at 1080P so your mouse doesn't get bigger if you increase the size of everything and it will just run whatever resolution you want through the game.

It actually renders everything in that resolution and then they have a way to scale it down and display it on your screen. It is a 4k or 1440P rendered picture you are getting so the jaggies wont be present and you can turn down aa and post processing things and it should look just as good, just obviously not as many pixels but it definitely looks better.

Thank you guys so much for your replies. I have my desktop resolution set to 1440p cause I thought I needed to do that. I will switch it back to 1080p. I am new to the 1440p resolutions so what are the best game settings for my GTX 980 that will give me the best performance and looks? Thank you again!

You're welcome. Personally I think yes. When I go back and forth between every game I have, even though it is all ultra, I can absolutely see the differences between 1080p to 1440P which is the biggest difference, 1440P to 4k is not as noticeable but it is definitely better at 4k. It may depend on how much you have to turn down but the 980 should still do pretty well for 1440P, with a few things turned down here and there if you have too. You'll have to experiment for yourself.

Also one more thing. I find if I don't have my deskstop resolution set to 1440p it makes alt tabbing in games very slow. I think the reason it is slow is because the desktop monitors resolution has to be the same resolution and hz or something like that to the in game one. I could be wrong.

Ahh possibly, I hadn't messed with alt tab that much. What I was doing before was just leaving my desktop at 1080P or 1440P and then when I went to game, switched it up to the same resolution and played and then switched it back afterwards. Now I just leave it but that could get annoying if you alt tab alot.

Yes, because it is running at a higher resolution and your gpu is working harder to render the higher resolution. You may have to make some adjustments to your fan curve to make it turn on higher and at a lower temp. You may also want to overclock your card some if you haven't already done so. Your Gpu will throttle itself before it does any permanent damage but always watch your temps anyways.

I will say that the biggest difference is on oldish titles that dont have the myriad of graphics options that newer titles do.
I dropped back on bionic commando ,BioShock 1 & singularity with 2k far enabled & the difference is astonishing.
The new dirt rally at 2k DSR is also near enough photo realistic.

& yes unless I can hit an absolute minimum of 60fps I disable aa

Also my last question. 1440p has made everything smaller. The desktop, the UI in games and stuff like that. Is that normal? I have gotten used to it. The graphics are AWESOME though. I love this DSR feature.

Yeah, it's normal because the screen is supposed to be bigger as you go up in resolution. If you right click, go into screen resolution, then click make text and other items larger or smaller and you can increase the size of the desktop icons and browser pages and such like that.

If you go too big though, it will also increase the size of your mouse pointer and i'ts really annoying because it wont highlight the exact spot you are trying to click on, so don't do it too high. And there's no workaround I've found yet.
