Nvidia Geforce 210 overheating problem

The title says it all..
My heat idles at about 60-70 c but when i start any game it jumps up to 105+ in about 4 minutes before it shuts off. I've looked around and noticed i can't mess with the fan speed either! I'm kind of stuck atm and i'm not sure what to do.

Run the computer with the cover off and see if all the case fans and the GPU fan is really spinning. I have an older low profile Nvidia 9400GT in my home theater PC and it was doing the same thing. The cheap cards cheap fan died. I was able to get a whole new heat sink and fan on ebay for like $4.00.

Just measure the spacing on the heat sink and make sure the replacement one you get matches. Some of the smaller cards are 55mm.

The card is a few years old. It may need its thermal paste clean off and replaced. If the card has been used extensively for intense operations like gaming, it is probably dried out and not transferring heat well.

thanks for all the help so quickly guys.. i figured out that my fan stops spinning every once and a while and doesn't seem to speed up when i need it too. i've tried all the software tricks but it seems none of them allow fan speed control such as msi afterburner, rivatuner, and a couple others i can't remember the name of but i'm pretty sure i've tried em all which leads me to the question: is there any way i can up the speed of my fan? or will i just have to replace it?

yeah i'm starting to think that's my only option here.. but really though thanks for all the help guys you've been great!

The 210 aint a star for gaming anyway. You can get a particularly good graphics card for gaming for less than a parking ticket.

You could try downloading MSI-Afterburner and manually turn fan to 100 it's what I do I've tried em all but they got the steadiest program imo

Yeah i think you're right the fan is just showing its age, i think i will just get a whole new card.. it's either that or the thermal paste needs replacing but either way i'd rather not spend to much time fixing an old card like this lol once again thanks.

ps. the heatsync looks like WAY too much trouble to remove.

Depending on your budget and what games you play theres a huge selection of cards. This is a great time to upgrade.
Newegg.com has an Nvidia 610 for around $40, or an HD6450 for around $35 or a HD6670 for $70.

update: if i leave the computer off for a good 5 hours it the heat returns to normal... well close to normal Idle: 48-53
Gaming: 70-85

also i've been looking into a card http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Express-Graphics-01G-P3-1302-LR/dp/B0049MPQA4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1377722693&sr=8-2&keywords=nvidia+graphics+card thoughts on this? keep in mind i have a low low budget.

I actually have an 8400gs in my office PC, It works ok for 2 screens and word and excel, access dbs and productivity. That card is about 6 years old and would be about 1/4 as fast as the gt210. The GT210 is about 2 years newer.

Get the HD5450, or the HD6450. Boost in performance and it uses less energy.
