NVidia GeForce 8800GTX (PCI-E) and nVidia GeForce 6200 (PCI) - Freeze

Hi there,

Ever since I installed an extra graphics card, specifically the nVidia GeForce 6200, alongside an existing GeForce 8800GTX - the graphics output of my system would occasionally freeze.

When I use the term graphics output, I quite literally mean it. The entire system continues to function, I can even move my mouse around and do things with it without getting any visual feedback. It takes anywhere between 15 seconds to 2 minutes for it to unfreeze and everything I have done while it has been frozen comes into immediate view.

I'm usually pretty good at diagnosing issues like these, but this one has me stumped for a change. I can only assume the obvious, which is that it's an incompatibility issue between the two cards in some very vague respect. But as far as I was aware, the two cards should work with the same drivers?

I hope somebody can help. This is driving me up the wall

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Corsair Dominator DDR2 800MHz RAM - 4 x 1GB
Gigabyte GA965P-DS3
Western Digital Raptor 74GB x 2 (RAID-0)
Western Digital Caviar 500GB x 1 (JBOD)
nVidia GeForce 8800GTX
nVidia GeForce 6200

Im pretty sure that those 2 cards cant be used in SLI as the 6200 doesnt suppport it.

I didn't say they were SLI'd.

but still, 2 cards from different generations are going to be problematic, ur lucky it works at all

I don't see why it shouldn't. Read up on the technical specifications of them.

I have almost the exact setup except I have the 8800 GTS 512 with the 6200 and I experience the same freezing. When I disable the 6200 I don't get the freezing. I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

having the same problem here. i've been using my 6200 for over a year without that happening. i think mine started soon after i installed the ntune software. i wanted to check around a bit before i uninstall it. thats how i found this page. i'll let u know how that turns out.

well my 6200 is working properly now. i uninstalled the ntune program from nvidia and uninstalled the nvidia card driver. i reinstalled version 169.** 64bits of the card driver after restarting (but not the ntune software) and everythng seem to be ok now.
