Hi i was wondering if someone would point me in the right direction here, i have a custom built pc and i would like to use it for gaming. however these are my specs,
Asus p5q pro motherboard
Intel core 2 quad q6600 stock clock speed was 2.40ghz and now i had it overclocked to 2.89ghz.
Corsair water cooler
8GB ram with heat sink on 2 sticks
1TB hard drive
Windows 8
Nvidia geforce 9500gs graphics card.

When playing a game it isnt as smooth as it could be, occasionally pauses, would upgrading graphics card help? if so which would be the best one for gaming and at a reasonable budget? Also the intel processor i have at the moment should it handle games ok? or any games?
Thanks in advance.

Solution
Hi well i wouldnt mind spending around £100 if it was something that could handle games good. as for power supply i am not sure what make it was again but it is a 420w psu. screen resolution is 1360 x 768 and thats through my hdmi output. i have only 1 game at the moment which i bought recently and it is battlefield 3. i didn't want to buy anymore until i was sure my pc could handle games without a problem. do you think my processor is good for gaming? thanks very much

Well here's the thing can you maybe try to see if you can find out the name/brand on the PSU that would help a lot with your options. You do have an older CPU but at that resolution which is quite low you should be able to game. However Battlefield games are more CPU bound compaired with other games.

this is a reply to Novuake, the sites i would problably buy from would be www.ebuyer.co.uk also ebay or anything that is legit. and i will just find out now what psu is in my machine ikaz, also the resolution i am using seems to be only the 1 that fits the screen properly and i have tried playing around with aspect ratio as i am using a 22inch hd tv and not a normal pc monitor. thanks

A safe bet is a AMD 7750 with 1 gig of ddr5 (stay away from DD3) which should even work on a "cheap" PSU on nvida side I think would be a gtx 650 though I think the 7750 is faster. You could also try to bump up to a 7770 that still under 100 and it may* even come with FC3 not sure if your country is included in the promotion.

the only thing i can see on psu is a big logo saying TRUST 420w dual fan does that mean anything to you? also psu is very loud has been since i got the computer. As for when i got it, it had a biostar micro am2 se motherboard with amd athlon 64 x 2 3800+ with 2gb ram and the nvidia graphics card.

yeah thanks will defo look it up, so the graphics card you mentioned (amd 7750) would do all my gaming needs? lol also do you think i should upgrade my psu? then lets say i had done the necessary changes would playing the games be running ok? thanks again much appreciate you spending the time to help. and that goes for Novuake aswell.

IF you want a better card, you can look at the HD7790 or GTX650ti BOOST, but that would mean you will probably need to upgrade your power supply.

Depending on the exact model. BUT I would not trust that TRUST of yours. 😀

The Above cards mentioned will play ANY game at your resolution.

Well i was actually thinking on upgrading psu as i say it is very loud, what psu could i upgrade to that would have abit more power and maybe abit more quieter lol. and i will defo have a look at the suggested graphics cards and let you know what i am going to order. thanks

Long term it would be good to upgrade your PSU looking that site there one listed for $35 OCZ 500W CoreXStream PSU, its new but a few reviews say it great for the price with that you can upgrade to a 7790 or GTX 650ti Boost. Though you would be fine with 7750 on your current PSU or buy a 7770 + new PSU for that $100 you have to spend.

Great, sorry for being a c**t but would that psu have sata connections on it for powering hard drive and powering my 2 x dvd rw drives but the dvd rw's have just the 4 pin power connecter on if that makes sense lol thanks

That PSU will ahve both SATA power connector and Molex 4-pin connectors.

Awesome the only downside is i am going to be alot lighter in the pockets, i can just feel the money burning through lol. so is that me set now to watch more porn when i get my upgrades through instead of it pausing all the time when she gets abit hot and wet 😀
