Nvidia Geforce Gt 440 can't update driver

I am unable to update my Nvidia Geforce Gt 440 from 344.48 to the latest driver 347.09. The update fails every time - both using the NVIDIA GeForce Experience utility and installing independently from a download.

I am running MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit SP1
AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
4.0 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 440

Someone else had this same issue and received a solution, but I'm unable to see what that was.

Hello, thank you for the reply.

No error message. The install seems to go through its process but at the end the NVIDIA GeForce Experience utility indicates the driver install "failed"

In the dev manager under sound, video and game controllers appears:
Creative SB X-Fi
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)

Everything indicates "working properly", "no conflicts". I'm not sure why there are 4 instances of NVIDIA High Definition Audio here. They are all exactly the same. When I've deleted and reinstalled, the above is exactly what appears in the system.
