Yes it will work.i suggest you to get hd 6570 as it is much faster than gt 610

I honestly wouldn't risk it. 280 watts is already fairly low, and that's without knowing how many watts are on the 12v rail. Check to see how many amps are on the 12v+ rail, and then multiply the Volts with the Amps, that gives you a Wattage.

Furthermore, I don't even know if the motherboard has PCI Express, which it needs for a GT610

Which GX620 do you have the mini tower, the desktop or the small form factor...?

My Dell Optiplex GX620 is the low profile desktop (not the small form factor).
The operating system is Windows XP Professional.
It currently has onboard intel graphic media accelerator 950 (max. 224 MB memory)
It has a PCI express x 16 slot 1.0a rated at 25 W max and 80 Gbps.
I want to add a PCI express x 16 graphics card that will significantly improve the graphics performance.
Will you recommend one? (The 25 W limit is where I have trouble)

I think the ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GT610 might work but it is rated at 29 W max.
It is a PCI express x 16 2.0 card, but I think that is backward compatible with 1.0a.
My budget is less than $100.

Pci exp 1 is limited to 25w? No it can power upto 75w. Get gt 610 it will work with your pc.

GT 610 is kinda slow though. You can get at least GT 640 or 7750

My application is home theater not gaming.

The Manual for my Dell Optiplex GX620 low profile computer says that the PCI Express x 16 1.0a slot is rated at 25W max. This may be a limitation for this computer only or a misprint. Dell seems to be non-standard often (It is annoying). If the slot was good for 75W max that would be great. How do I check.

I want a video card that is reliable for home theater.

With no more activity on my question. I am going to have to conclude that it will be risky to add a video card to my computer. I probably won't do it. I have no idea what a PCI express x 16 1.0a rated at 25W max is good for. Burned by Dell again.

Any last comments before I give up on this one? Has anybody actually done it?

Play as borderlands 1with 29-34 fps

i use a 2gb 610 in mine it is an overkill but it does work fine
