NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M - Multiple Monitors

So I have a laptop, and I was able to successfully connect a monitor with a VGA connection, by attaching it to a HDMI converter and plugging it into my laptop.

Then I switched out the VGA monitor for a new HDMI monitor, so the converter was no longer required. There is no VGA output on my laptop, so I purchased a USB adapter for the VGA monitor. But whenever I plug it in, it says "Cable not connected" on the monitor.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to install some sort of software to help me establish this?

Nevermind. It turns out I just didn't install the adapter correctly. It came with a disc, and I didn't run the disc. My bad
