NVIDIA Geforce GT610 VS 9800GTX+

Hi,

A friend of mine has both cards and wants to play AION, Skyrim & WoW with these cards as her options. She also has an Integrated AMD Radeon HD 7470 available. How would you compare these cards? What do you look for in cards to determine what is better than the other?

Short answer: the 9800, though much older, is much more powerful.

As far as how to determine this, you can look at number of shader cores ("Cuda cores" in Nvidia-speak) and the clock speed, etc but benchmark results are the ultimate arbiter.

9800gtx+ is older, and will take more power, but it's quite a bit better. gt610 is not a gaming card.

This is an important point also: the 9800 is a fair bit more power-hungry. That's definitely the card you'd want to use but you should make sure the power supply is up to the task.

So according to the link, the cards on the left are comparable to the ones on the right?

The link is a chart showing roughly how different cards rank against each other. Cards on the same level are roughly comparable, and cards higher on the rungs are faster. The 9800+ is still fairly high on the list despite its age, higher in fact than the 640 which is 3 tiers above the 610 within Nvidia's 600 family
