Not everyone! They left out me, what the hell? But in all seriousness I'm starting to contemplate making my own channel just to get free stuff from vendors. Does anybody know how many subs you ought to have so that vendors send you stuff? Seriously - all these big "tech" youtubers suck - it's a pain to watch their videos but there's no other way to learn about some particular products - unless you have just nearby a retailer with great return policy but even then trying out all the stuff you consider buying is a pain in the ass. I cringe at their lame attempts at humor that can entertain only a 12 year old and the way they carry themselves like they're tv anchors or something is effing ridiculous. It all could've been overlooked if not for the fact that they don't make REALLY important videos like head to head comparison of gpus or monitors by different vendors (smaller channels do that but not the big ones - politics, I guess). For me, the last straw with all these douchebags was when they kept uploading all these meaningless videos before the keynote speech and then after before the 17th of May talking about NOTHING useful - just blabbing about NOTHING. Jesus, all these media whores should be ashamed of themselves - I can't think of them as descent people no matter how hard I try.

WOW.

Anyway - all media is biased. That's why you should always watch their reviews with a grain of salt since we never know if maybe nVidia allowed them to test only certain type of games in order get an exclusive. Still, I think that there are youtubers, big youtubers, that create accurate benchmarks.

I didn't say their benchmarks were inaccurate - I'm saying I'm sick of their childish lame jokes and the way they're carry themselves and the fact that like 90% of their videos are crap that no one really needs and approx 10% of this 90% is such utter crap I can't believe the nerve on these dicks to release such videos. And again - no REALLY important videos like comparison of 100 or 144 Hz panels or gpus by different vendors, explaining some really important stuff and such - especially this guys at linus - it's like a Wikipedia for those who can't read.

I wouldn't agree with the 1:9 ratio. Some videos are useless to me but I enjoy the others and let all of them be because the entertainment business isn't revolving around my tastes.

I would. For me a useful video is where they're telling you something you REALLY needed to know and feel like "gee, it's a good thing I've stumbled upon this vid" or a comprehensive review of a product (head to head comparison would be even better, again) - not "well, that wasn't so bad". Tech channels are not "entertainment business" - they're supposed to be useful and informative and funny you should mention that because they in fact trying to be entertaining (too hard) and it comes out poorly - after all, if they were good entertainers they'd work in real entertainment business and not making videos about hardware punctuating them by lame jokes.

Seems like you're in the 1% that feels like those videos are useless. Maybe you should find a better use of your time rather than complaining about something that you don't like.

I agree that I'd like more head to head comparisons, but overall I feel like I get something out of each video I watch. Being entertaining is actually a huge part of why those guys are successful. If they were spouting off numbers in a dry and uninteresting way then very few people would feel inclined to watch.

Youtube is real entertainment businnes though. At least IMO. Anyway, before we venture too deep into the offtopic: it is very subjective. Not everyone has your knowledge and someone else might think "gee, it's a good thing I've stumbled upon this vid" where you are barely awake after watching it.

Now back to gtx1080:
You guys think the 1080 will be a better base for overclocking than the 1070? What's the history? Was the 980 better for this purpose than the 970?

the 970 specs were released today and can be seen here

a 150w tdp and still uses an 8 pin connector so the founder's edition should be a better oc for the 1070 since it has a lot more power headroom it can use. we saw the 1080 bumping into power limits already. i'll wager that the custom cards can do a lot with that headroom rather than having to add connections to the 1080 to get better overclocks. should also allow for lower temps as well for the 1070.

just my guess anyway.

here's another video worth a watch. it's in German but you can see the screen real well. he changes out the reference cooler for a custom one and gets 50 degrees at 2.1 Ghz. gives a lot of hope to what custom cards are going to be able to do!!

The "CUDA cores" count cut is huge. I will be amazed if the 1070 performs better or equal to the 980ti. At least, it will be between the 980 and 980ti.

Also, the interesting bit will be GDDR5 vs GDDR5X.

Cheers!

Not all cuda cores are equal remember.

Correct, it's not cuda cores that usually count in gaming. Typically that goes to shading units and ROPs.

The cuda cores are the "shading units", well these days they are unified pixel and shading units which nvidia call cuda cores.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from ichoudhry1 : "GTX 1070 specs posted!!!"

Thanks. Didn't know that.

Yep. Graphics card vendors have been doing that for 15+ years now.

Plus, if you take a look at the 1080s PCB, there is room for an additional 6pin connector.

I feel dumb now, but thanks for the clarification. As I was on team red for the last 5 years... any rough estimation when we could get a "upgraded" 1080(i.e. more power for watercooled oc)and the estimate price point?

still expecting a couple weeks before we see the custom cards and prices start $100 less than the founder's edition but who knows where they will actually end up once they get released. this new reference pricing is new and not sure how it will effect the custom card prices.

I have a tinfoil hat theory as to when we will see partner's non-reference boards: when nVidia sees how much money they got as extra with the Scam Edition cards.

The regular theory I have is when Board Partners can figure out good power delivery for GDDR5X and decent HSF solutions. Which reminds me. Is the GPU layout (don't know how else to call it; mounting holes?) for custom cooling solutions the same as the Maxwell cards?

Cheers!

there was an early leaked photo that seemed to show the gpu on the same pcb as a 980 model had. think it was an asus design they matched up.

i would assume, the card makers will change as little as possible to make it easier. so if they can reuse something, they probably will.

the video i linked above, has an aftermarket cooler fitting onto the card so there has to be something similar about them. that cooler is not made for the 1080 obviously since it just came out.
