Not everyone! They left out me, what the hell? But in all seriousness I'm starting to contemplate making my own channel just to get free stuff from vendors. Does anybody know how many subs you ought to have so that vendors send you stuff? Seriously - all these big "tech" youtubers suck - it's a pain to watch their videos but there's no other way to learn about some particular products - unless you have just nearby a retailer with great return policy but even then trying out all the stuff you consider buying is a pain in the ass. I cringe at their lame attempts at humor that can entertain only a 12 year old and the way they carry themselves like they're tv anchors or something is effing ridiculous. It all could've been overlooked if not for the fact that they don't make REALLY important videos like head to head comparison of gpus or monitors by different vendors (smaller channels do that but not the big ones - politics, I guess). For me, the last straw with all these douchebags was when they kept uploading all these meaningless videos before the keynote speech and then after before the 17th of May talking about NOTHING useful - just blabbing about NOTHING. Jesus, all these media whores should be ashamed of themselves - I can't think of them as descent people no matter how hard I try.
You won't get anywhere with that expectation...
You gotta earn the respect from the community first, once you build up you go up. I used to write articles for a smaller website, not sure If i can disclose it, but we used to only have lower companies that sponsored us, then we got AMD, and now we have NVIDIA. And that work was based off of 200 pages worth of articles. All the way back in the 600 series days,
Yeah, I know - I was just kind of kidding about the channel - I know getting over a 100k subs for a tech channel is really hard - that's why there's only like five big channels and plethora of ones with about 1k subs. I just kind of can't get over the fact what a sweet deal is being a big tech youtuber - you get revenue from advertisement from youtube AND sponsors (seriously, why do I have to watch two! ads in one! short video - not always but sometimes it happens) and you get all kinds of free stuff and just thinking of HOW little use these channels are just blows my mind. It'd be much simpler to get over it if these channels didn't get in my face all the time - YT's recommendation system is a MESS and I really hate it - I wish there was an option "never see that channel ever again".
And correct me if I'm wrong - you obviously know more about what I'm about to say but sponsors, including AMD or Nvidia don't give rat's ass whether you're really tech savvy and know what you're talking about - if you have more than 500k subs and you never badmouth their company you'll get free stuff for reviews or even a sponsor deal so - even if you are a total ass clown like Plier or BlondiePie.
In a way I agree with you, but I think it's great channels like those big popular 100K+ subscribers exists. If those youtubers don't make that content then who will? And the information they provides is still useful to a lot of people, that's why they get a lot of views. Maybe you want a tech channel that goes much deeper than those popular ones and has less 'cool personality', but would enough people watch such a channel to merit its existence? Would someone be able to make a living running a channel like that? I hope so, but I'm not sure. You're welcome to try, but I have my doubts it will draw the masses.
I do agree that a lot of tech channels can be a pain to watch due presenters often acting a certain 'cool' way which they probably thinks (and maybe rightly so) is what's needed to attract the masses. I think maybe what it comes down to is youtubers being a phenomenon similar to bloggers where people are following a particular person rather than simply following for the content. So then they watch that individual's channel not only for the info provided, but because they wanna know what
he thinks of the GTX 1080.
So, I know I've asked this question before, but when can we realistically expect the ASUS STRIX versions of 1080 and 1070 to hit the shelves?
😀
