Hi everyone,
Before we begin, I'm fairly stupid when it comes to computing so be nice and try to use simple English please!

Basically, I currently have Dell Inspiron 620 with an intergrated graphics card and I wish to upgrade this. I've been looking around and found what looks to be a nice one called the Nividia GeForce GTX 550 Ti.

I was wondering if it would fit and work inside my Dell? Here are the links to the graphics card:

Thanks in advance!

ok here is the deal , First I need to know your CPU , and what you have in your system , how many harddisks , any cards ? I need to calculate the watt .. I have the mobo watt , need the rest.

I found interesting cards that will work in your PC with 300 Watts power ,

1- AMD HD 7770 GHZ edition , it consumes only 80 watts . and it will work.

here is the link to best price :

with 2G GDDR

5 Asus Card : http://www.uk-computers.co.uk/pgProduct.cfm?Product=15892_156_1603854-2474143-HD7770-2GD5-Asus_HD7770_2GD5_Radeon_HD_7770_Graphic_Card_1020_MHz_Core_2_GB_GDDR5_SDRAM_PCI_Express_3_0_x16_4600_MHz_Memory_Clock_2560_x_1600_CrossFireX_Fan_Coole

With 1GDDR5 : HIS , this comes with Free FARCRY 3 game , and for 73 only ...

Do you have the Mini or the Slim ?

if the mini , then it has 300 watts power supply , and the GTX 650 ti consumes 140 watts .. 300 watts is too low for this , you need at least 350 watts.

your best choice is the GTX 650 (no ti) it will work fine.

or you change the power supply , and it is an easy task

Thanks for responding.
I do own a mini so it seems the Ti is out of the question. I've looked up to GTX 650 and it seems more expensive, on Amazon anyway?

Are there any other suggestions for graphics cards for gaming that would work on a Dell Inspiron 620 (Mini)?

On a side note, how would I change the power supply?

wrong ,

GTX 650 runs at 85 watts only

GTX 650 ti 140 watts

have a nice day and dont give false information

I will try to look for a card for you (you are in UK right ? )

changing the power supply is easy .. if it is the first time , you just unplug all the plugged wires , and write down on paper each unplugged wire so you dont forget , then you install the new power and plug them all again .

if you change your power you will be free to choose any card you wish even a GTX 780 😛

Changing the power supply is easy , you just buy new one , and then remove all plugs and when you remove a plug wirite it down on a paper so you dont forget it later , then replace the power supply and plug all the wires again and check them in the paper :)

and I will try to look for a GPU for you in UK right ?

your best choice is GTX 650 ... or you can get new power and be free even to add anything upto GTX 780 :) if your case has space :)

I am from the UK and thanks for the help so far! It would be great if you could help me find a new card, I'll look into the new power supply as well for the future.

your budget ?

he has full height slots :)

those will work 100% they consume just 80 watt ... will work with your 300 watts power supply .

2- the GTX 650 ti (not boost) consumes 110 watts , now this mite work or not depending on your CPU watt that shares the 12 V rail ..

those are your choices , the HD 7770 GHZ wil work 100%

the GTX 650 ti , I need to know your CPU

Thanks for looking into this so much for me, I would be lost otherwise.

As I said, I'm fairly stupid when it comes to computing so I'll put down all the information I can get about the computer I've got to see if you can work it out from that? Sorry for that.

My CPU is: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz
RAM: 4GB
Harddirve: 1TB
Disk Drives: Generic Multi-Card USB Device, ST31000524AS ATA Device
Video Card: Integrated Intel HD Graphics Family
Sound Card: Conexant HD Audio

If there's anything else you need to know, I can try to find out for you.

ok , if You pick the HD 7770 GHZ Edition your system will run at 255 watts ..

if you choose the GTX 650 ti it will run at 285 Watts ... very close to limit

the HD 7770 GHZ Edition is safe , the GTX 650 ti will run but at the higher end of the power supply , will be hot and noisy ..

it is your call :)

which card do you prefer ? both are close in performance ...

I've gone for the HD 7770 as I prefer "better be safe than sorry". Thank you very much for all of your help today SNA3, it's been fantastic. And the deal you found with Far Cry 3, that's amazing!

Thanks again.

SNA3 you advised the card which would require additional 6 pin connector - this Dell power supply don't have it, you did not know that?

Now it is all depends on OP unused power connectors, OP might not have enough for this card.

I don't see good final solution here.

GTX 650 = GTX 550Ti and it should work with your existing PSU.

You should probably go with the GTX 650Ti and get a good 400w PSU from Antec, Seasonic, XFX, Corsair, or Rosewill.

Look at yourself now........

Slow down. No excuses.

JA-Harris, do you have only 1 hard drive and only 1 DVDRW? Are you planning on getting more? Do you have media card reader?

PLease respond. You can not just plug your new card - IT WOULD NOT WORK!

stop giving false advice , the plug connector comes with the card.

he can use 2x4 pin molex connectors for it .

and IT WILL WORK.

he just needs 10 watts from those connectors the rest comes from the motherboard , one hard-disk uses upto 10 watts and use those connectors.

and the hard drives use Sata power , he has 4 pins connectors free. even if not he can use splitters , we are talking here about 10 watts only

it will work and dont ruin his happiness.

and by the way , I talk from Experience , I did that to many Dells , I dont think you did it once .

Relax, I did not said that you are incompetent, but you are meaning this to me, so let see where you wrong.

stop giving false advice , the plug connector comes with the card.

You mean that card comes with this, correct? By the way not all card come with those connectors, some don't, for an example your referenced HIS 7770 doesn't have this connector in package.

adapter-2x-molex-6pin.jpg

Very good, but lets take a look at OP power supply.

25831-DELL-N6H3C-F.jpg

* 1 - 24 Pin ATX Mainboard Power
* 1 - 4 Pin ATX Mainboard Power
* 4 - 15 Pin Serial ATA (SATA) Power

To my best understanding Molex connector looks like this

Molex_female_connector.jpg

And Inspiron 620 power connectors are SATA and looks like this

satapowerfaq.jpg

Now you can see what I mean.

So OP need this

2692963

Now, if OP will need second hard drive he would not be able to install it due to the lack of available power connectors - they would be used on video card, that is what I meant.

and the hard drives use Sata power , he has 4 pins connectors free.

Where this come from - there are 4 total SATA power connectors, one for hard drive and one for DVDRW, only 2 left???

And at last

and by the way , I talk from Experience , I did that to many Dells , I dont think you did it once .

This is direct insult, you know. Considering your advice with Molex connectors, it is looks like you have an experience with upscale Dells which have extra Molex power connectors, here is the cheap Dell with just enough of connectors to connect 2 har drives and 2 DVDRW and this is it!

And finally, you probably did not look at my signature, pay attention.
I have Dells since 1996 and upgraded them all one way or another.

Enough said for this thread.

I am not here to argue . nor show off .. you think I dont know about the Sata plug ? Come on ...

you said to him Might not work ... you scared him ... why did not you say this from the beginning instead of scaring him off?

you even told him to slow down .. did not tell him just buy a cheap 1$ adapter.

please stop the show .. splitters and adapters are not big deal knowledge ..

I know already there are Sata to 6 pins and sata to 4 pins Adapters...

open your case and see if you have 4 pin moplex adapters coming from the Power supply

they look like this

Molex_female_connector.jpg

if you have 2 free , no worries , you are ok if not tell me .
