Fury X @stock handily beats a GTX 980 @stock http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_radeon_r9_fury_x_review,15.html.

Guru3d overclocked both the 980 and Fury X and if you compare the results of the 980 overclock it still loses to the Fury X @stock in the three games they used for the OC results http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/nvidia_geforce_gtx_970_and_980_reference_review,28.html , let alone when compared to the Fury X OC results.
 


You might be thinking of the regular fury.
