Nvidia Graphic Driver Problems

My PC:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.00 GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 4 440 MX
RAM: 1 GB
Monitor: Samsung 19 Inch (Resolutions up to 1440x Something)
OS: Windows XP SP3 Professional 32-bit

I recently reformatted my PC. I installed CS 1.6 and played it. Apparently, my OpenGL can't render my CS so I changed OpenGL to D3D and it worked perfectly. Next, I installed Minecraft (I know that 1 GB can't run Minecraft but all I do is lower the video settings to get the FPS a bit higher). When I launched it, it also has an issue with my OpenGL. So, I was thinking to update my drivers. I went to geforce.com and went to drivers. Instead of Automatic driver updates, I went to Manual driver updates and this is the one I entered.

Then I clicked "Start Search" and the result was "ForceWare Release 90 - WHQL". Don't worry DirectX 9.0c was already installed at this time. Then I downloaded. The file size was 40-45 MB. After I downloaded it, I installed it. While it was installing, a message appeared but I didn't read it properly cuz my monitor was blinking so I was freaking nervous. Since it was just blinking, I clicked okay. Then suddenly, it said the installation was done and it had 2 choices. Restart the PC or Restart later. I chose restart. Suddenly, it took long to shut down. My PC still says Windows is shutting down... and it took 10 minutes already. Because I was impatient, I turned off my AVR then turned it on again and turned on my CPU. When the Welcome screen came, the screen resolution turned 640x480 and the color resolution is the lowest (32-bit). So, I was freaking nervous. I right click -> Properties -> Settings. I changed the screen resolution to the max (1440x Something) and it still remain 640x480. I changed my color resolution to the highest (32-bit) and it stayed Lowest (32-bit). So what I did is that I went to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> And I removed Nvidia Drivers. After it said that I need to restart the PC, I clicked okay. The PC restarted successfully. Color resolution was successful but, the size resolution isn't the same. When I increase it to 1440x Something, the Icons overlaps, the monitor. So I lowered it to 1240x720 and it was back to normal. Now I got 2 problems. My CS lags when I played again. And, when I went Start -> Right Click My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager and the word "Display Adapters" is gone. So, I was scared that all my Nvidia drivers are gone!

Now I know most of you will say that I need to re-install the Nvidia drivers but where do I get one? If it is ForceWare Release 90, I am a little bit nervous...

Solution
My guess is that you successfully removed the downloaded drivers. That's ok. Now you are running with the default Windows drivers. That's ok. They must not support the resolution you are trying to get to. Also they will not render a game to best performance. Go to the NVid. site and use auto discovery. Since yours is an older system there is a good chance many of the newer drivers will not be best for you. Also try some self control, patience and not freaking out. Your system is not the fastest so things like driver updates will take time. Do not screw around during an update. Go eat a cookie or something. Lastly do not make on screen selections unless you can read what you are choosing. Even if it is flashing try to see what the...

Solution

I tried lowering the solution in my CS 1.6 (640x480) and it still lags :/ Also, are you saying that I have to re-install my Nvidia drivers except with patience? :) Thanks.

EDIT: Where is "Auto discovery". I can't seem to find it...
