Gateway GM5260 Graphics Card Upgrade: Need to replace the NVIDIA 7300LE. This old system has the Intel Love Valley DP965LVG MB that originally came with NVIDIA GeForce™ 7300LE Turbo Cache, 64 MB video add-in card with VGA, DVI, and S-Video ports
Up to 256 MB with shared video memory. CPU has been upgraded to Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66 GHZ CPU/Processor. Ram : 8 GB of 800mgz Ram & PSU was upgraded from 300W to 550Watt. Someone had posted that the NVIDA GeForce 8600 GT would work. Is there a better option?

My 7300LE fan is on the friz. My PSU does not have a graphics card power supply connection so I assume my current Graphhics card
(7300LE) draws power directly from the PCIe connection which I believe...according to this chart is the 1.1 16 pin type. The 8800GTS will not work with my PSU having one power rail at 25 amp copacity. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/nvidia-geforce-chips-comparison-table/ I do see I see that there are variations of the cards I am considering: DDR2 / DDR3 /256MB /512MB variations. Does anyone have a experience with these old cards? What card do you recommend for this application?
Just in case anyone has read this thread: After researching my PSU limitations it does appear that the GeForce 8600 GT 512MB GDDR3is my best option with current power supply. With another PSU upgrade, their 8800 Ultra would be an option. Working with what I got.....unless someone has a better idea....It shall be an upgrade to GeForce 8600 GT 512MB GDDR3. Better than scrapping this old rig :)
