I am going to be putting a new graphics card in my Computer, unfortunately it only Will support "Low profile" Cards. I was looking at the 730 for a long time and was about to get it when I saw the 740 for $16 more. Is the extra $16 worth the performance?

Solution

there are two different gt 730 cards, one with gddr5 and one with ddr3, if the one you were looking at has gddr5 the performance difference will be minimal if it has ddr3 then go for the 740 since it nearly tripples performance if you have gddr5 instead of ddr3
In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the Nvidia GeForce GT 740 are significantly better than the Nvidia GeForce GT 730.

The GeForce GT 740 has a 91 MHz higher core clock speed and 16 more Texture Mapping Units than the GeForce GT 730. This results in the GeForce GT 740 providing 17.4 GTexel/s better texturing performance. This still holds weight but shader performance is generally more relevant, particularly since both of these GPUs support at least DirectX 10.

The GeForce GT 740 has a 91 MHz higher core clock speed and 8 more Render Output Units than the GeForce GT 730. This results in the GeForce GT 740 providing 8.7 GPixel/s better pixeling performance. However, both GPUs support DirectX 9 or above, and pixeling performance is only really relevant when comparing older cards.

The GeForce GT 730 was released less than a year after the GeForce GT 740, and so they are likely to have similar driver support for optimizing performance when running the latest games.

The GeForce GT 730 and the GeForce GT 740 have the same amount of video memory, but are likely to provide slightly different experiences when displaying game textures at high resolutions.

The GeForce GT 740 has 14.4 GB/sec greater memory bandwidth than the GeForce GT 730, which means that the memory performance of the GeForce GT 740 is slightly better than the GeForce GT 730.

Both the GeForce GT 730 and the GeForce GT 740 have 384 Shader Processing Units. While the two GPUs have the same number of SPUs, the actual performance delivered by the . Knowing that the shader performance of the GeForce GT 740 is superior, it is not necessary to examine the GPUs' respective Texture and Pixel Fill Rates.

Wow! I forgot all about GDDR I was going to get the 128 bit because it was the same price as the 64 but the 128 only has DDR3! While the 64 bit has GDDR5, I will be getting that one! Thanks for your help!
