Nvidia GT 755m SLI, or GTX 860m?

So I plan to buy a new laptop and am looking at the lenovo y510p 755m sli configuration, or the lenovo y50 with gtx 860m configuration. I plan to be playing games like BF4, Day Z, TitanFall, Skyrim, and possibly call of duty. Which of these graphics cards and laptops do you believe is better? You can see the Y510p here,

Technically the Y510p with SLI is more powerful. Since you won't use anywhere near the processor's capacity while gaming, you can get the i5 SLI Version and save a bunch of money.

If you want to get the best bang for your buck and get a lot more performance out of the MSI GT60 Dominator 424 which has a GTX 870M and a host of other features.

Ehhh, I'm kinda looking for a more mobile laptop since I'm going to college soon, and this will also act as my college laptop. So the y510p would have more power then? And by more power you mean better performance in games correct?

Even I have the same confusion. But y510p has GT 755M SLI which is quite the same in performance when compared to GTX 860M 2gb. But there is a model available with 4gb of GTX 860M. I think the 4gb GTX 860M would be far superior than GT 755M SLI. And yeah theres a difference in power consumption too. As GT 860M uses less power resulting in better battery life.
But not really sure if its worth spending around 350 dollars more for the GTX 860M or Y50.

That's my exact same feeling. Idk if it's worth spending another 250$ for a slightly better laptop

Yeah because the games you mentioned would run fine on GT 755 Sli also keeping aside the heating issue. The only difference would be the fps. because games like crysis3 and far cry the fps is around 20 to 24 for Y510p on ultra settings. And rest other games have like above 50 fps. So probably the GTX 860M 4gb would have better fps for games like crysis3 far cry or other highly loaded games on ultra settings.
Because for GTX 860M 2gb the fps for crysis3 is around 19 to 20 and same for far cry at ultra setings. So dont know how the GTX 860M 4gb would perform.
If anyone else knows about the 4gb one please do help

I to am conflicted with what i want to buy the y510 or the y50. The configuration of the y510 that I'm looking at is $899 on the lenovo website. For $99 more I can purchase the extra 755 graphics card ultra bay to add on for the sli option. Opposed to the newer y50 with the $1350 with a single gtx 860m 4g and 16 gigs of ram.... Is it worth paying $350 extra newer model, 16g ram, and the 860m graphics card?

Gtx 860m 2gb has higher clock speed and it is more efficient in 8/10 test.

There are two benchmark tests where the 4gb is faster by 2-3fps but thats just because of the memory. The 4gb is sligtly underclocked.

Check maxwell and kepler(if i spelled it right)

Gtx 880 is far superior you could just get a custom build laptop with i5 then upgrade after 1 year or 2 to i7

I own laptop with Gtx 860m all games run perfectly some of them require lightining settings reduced. There's always plan B Nvidia Experience Optimization. Sets your game settings so you have best experience in-game.


I've done lots of research myself before I purchased it.

This thread is a little dated, but I have a y510p with the dual 755m SLi config. To be honest, its a mess. Games crash consistantly on this machine and Lenovo is actually sending me the y50 with the 4gb 860m card in it. This has been in for repairs numerous times and the issues have not been resolved. Also, yes this laptop generates a lot of heat. If you turn SLi off the laptop isn't bad, still awful unstable but not bad. Go with the y50, again, Lenovo is replacing my 755m SLi y510p with that model. You'll be better off too because you don't have to mess with SLi which is some cases can be problematic anyway. Good thing this still has plenty of warranty on it. Just my ten cents though.

Don't buy SLI...I did the same msitake, SLI technology is really badly optimized, forget palying FPSes becasue of microstuttering. Same on my friend's Y510p. This was the last time I bought SLI.
