[SOLVED] Nvidia GTX 1050ti OC causing computer to freeze.

My specs:
CPU: Intel Core i3 540 3.07GHz
RAM: 6GB DDR3 (2x 2GB, 2X 1GB)
GPU: ASUS Nvidia GTX 1050ti OC Edition 4GB
OS: Windows 10 Pro
Motherboard: Intel DH57DD
PSU: Inter-tech SL-500G 500W
SSD: 120 GB

At first everything worked fine, apart from my screen turning on and off, especially wheni was using geforce experience and even in chrome. Then my game crashed. I restarted my pc and tried running the game again but it didn't work, same with every other game. They crashed on startup. It gave me a notification saying: "Application X has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" I tried everything I saw on forums (and i'm serious) , but it just made it worse. My whole pc started freezing, my CPU usage kept getting stuck at 100% and the screen flashing became unbearable. The thing is that it works perfectly fine with an older GPU or integrated graphics. We sent it back to get it fixed but they said that it works perfectly for them. So my guess is that it has something to do with an old cpu, lack of ram or just generally outdated components.

I am not an expert in computers so please don't be mad if I messed anything up :p
Thank you in advance!

Virtual memory:

If the computer's RAM is not enough to support the software being run then the OS can make use of dedicated space on the hard drive as a form of temporary memory.

By using dedicated drive space (and hopefully contiguous space, i.e., all together in one area) the process of moving data back and forth between RAM and Virtual memory (page file) is faster and provides some improvement in overall performance.

FYI:

https://searchstorage.techtarget.com/definition/virtual-memory

And there are other explanatory links to be found.

Even if 50GB of space is available that space may be "scattered about" in different areas on the drive. And each area has "pointers" that tell the software where the next piece is.

Lots of...

Are you overclocking the GPU?

Have you tried downloading the newest GPU drivers, reinstalling, and reconfiguring them?

How old is the PSU?

Look in Reliability History/Manager and Event Viewer.

They may be capturing error codes or warnings at the time of the crashes.

While the 1050 Ti doesn't use a lot of power, even the overclocked versions, given that you're having a buffet of problems, the garbage-tier PSU is the first place I'd look once you've verified there are no temperature issues (and if there are, I'd still replace the PSU).

1. No, but I did try to underclock it a little bit.

2. Yes, the first thing i did was reinstalling the drivers, i even tried my luck with an older driver with no success.

3. The psu is pretty old, as i got the computer (excluding the graphics card, it's brand new) from my step-father.

4. Thank you for this one, I checked and there are error messages leading all the way back to the first crash. Do you want me to post some of them?

Thank you for your reply. I don't have any temperature issues and I will pay more attention to the PSU and try to upgrade it.

In overall agreement with DSzymborski regarding the PSU.

No harm in posting a few of the error messages just for the record. (The messages may be reporting the post crash restarts.)

However if there are a number of varying error messages then the PSU is all the more suspect.

It's almost full with 4GB remaining. It's a Samsung SSD 840 Series ATA. I will be running the diagnostic, although my graphics card isn't in my computer at the moment.

Edit: I've ran CrystalDiskInfo and it says that nothing is wrong. Besides the PSU, do you think that my Intel i3 540 processor is too old/weak for my graphics card?

Physically nothing wrong but without sufficient operating space the SSD is going to slow things down and cause problems.

Reference links:

https://pureinfotech.com/why-solid-state-drive-ssd-performance-slows-down/

https://www.howtogeek.com/165542/why-solid-state-drives-slow-down-as-you-fill-them-up/

My recommendation is to get a larger SSD (240 GB).

Back up all important data from the current drive. Verify that the backups worked and data is viewable/recoverable.

Next house clean the existing SDD to remove old files that you do not need.

Then run a utility such as CCleaner to further clean up the drive.

Lastly clone your existing 120 GB drive to the new 240 GB drive using something like Macrium Reflect.

But how does that fix the GPU problem. My computer runs perfectly fine, without any stutters or freezes, when the graphics card isn't enabled/mounted, but the second I enable it, my pc immediately starts to malfunction.

For whatever reason the installed GPU is "looking" for more drive space than is available.

Check Resource Monitor and Task Manager (one at a time) without the GPU installed.

Install the GPU and check again. Likely to show some bottleneck - prime suspect is the drive but that can be determined.

So I cleared some space on my SSD and tried a better psu. I could play for like 10 minutes but then it froze again...
BTW. I am planning on upgrading my cpu to a ryzen 5 2600 and getting more ram. (So basically just replacing all of the older parts)

Yes, it bottlenecks pretty heavily. Cpu usage in the 80%-90%+, gpu usage from 5%-20%. I should have more than enough space now, but I still crashed earlier.

I have 50 GBs of space. What exactly is virtual memory?
PS: Accidentaly marked this as the best solution... My problem is not yet solved.

Just so you know a 1050 Ti can only be overclocked by a little which is about a 10%-15% boost the only way you would be able to go higher than that is if you have a Gigabyte 1050 Ti gaming card that has the additional 6 pin power connector which if your card doesn't have that then you can only go so far with it.

Lots of reading and writing goes on if the drive is fragmented in such a manner. Slows performance.

HDD's can be defragmented to improve the situation. Not so for SSD's

Use Task Manager and Resource Monitor to observe memory use and drive activity.

And you can manage the matter per the following link from within this forum:
