Question NVIDIA GTX 1060 recently giving me Code 43 error

Because of this error(?), playing even simple games uses up tremendous amounts of my CPU. Any advice/help? Is it the video card or something else like the motherboard or OS?

System info:
Windows 10 Pro 64bit Version 1809
GTX 1060 6GB
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4930K CPU @ 3.40 GHz
32GB RAM

I can't do Solution 1 because I appear to have no system restore points to return to. I've already tried Solutions 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9.I'm not sure how to do 5 and I don't want to risk breaking anything further by trying 10. I've seen the website provided in the link and tried most of those things, too. If the problem can't be solved, is there a way to determine the cause of the problem? Is it the video card? The motherboard? Both? Neither? I don't want to buy a new video card only to discover that the problem was the motherboard all along, for example.

Update: I tried 5 using a program called GPU Temp and it didn't show any temperature data for my video card.

Upperdate: Apparently, I hadn't tried disabling and re-enabling the device. That seems to have done it for now so it's off to go feel very, very stupid...
