Game development is SLOW.

Multi-GPU is going to get better, however we aren't going to get to 2017 and suddenly everything works perfectly.

We'll continue to see some games with no support, some with DELAYED support (not available on launch) and games which supports it but has issues.

Other:
Don't forget about the computer MONITOR. I personally would much rather have a good GSYNC monitor with a single GTX980Ti (or similar/faster Pascal card) rather than a non-GSYNC monitor but 2x980Ti.

GSYNC is still expensive though. I'm also trying to decide whether to go with ULTRAWIDE (21:9) such as a 3440x1440 monitor instead of 2560x1440 monitor.

Do note that 4K is not currently ideal for gaming monitors because you can't get a very high...

Not a troll, genuinely interested to see if anyone knows about the new unnamed GPU from Nvidia, do you think it will drop the price of the 980ti / Titan X when its released and does anyone know any other specification apart from the new VRAM GDDR5x

Nobody has any solid information yet, but late this year is a more realistic estimate. (I dont see it being called a 1080 since its being aimed at 1440p and 4k, would be a bit of a bad name dont you think?)
No it will not drop current prices. New generation launches have never dropped prices more than 20 dollars for a week or two before those prices then skyrocket due to EOL pricing.

So i'm looking to buy another 980ti say by the end of august, do you think if they release this card around Computex 2016 the prices will drop by then?

Not sure. For one thing, I've often seen prices stay the same simply because of people like you who want another 980Ti for SLI.

It's all about supply and demand. Sometimes hard to predict, though I think the new Polaris and Pascal cards will be in really high demand thus not likely to affect 900 series pricing much initially.

Damn

@yrsmplnerd Why would you buy a 2nd 980 Ti, instead of just buying the new Pascal variant? Because it's easier to add a 2nd card, then it is to sell the 980 Ti and start over with Pascal? I'm not criticizing; I'm legitimately curious.

I'm considering going with he new pascal variant but the price of a the that card will be well beyond the price of a 980ti , well that what i'm speculating anyways. New technologies are making micro stutter less of a problem than what it used to be so I believe the performance will be better on two 980's than the new pascal but we don't know all the details...

No one knows. But my guess is that one 1080 Ti won't exceed performance of two 980 Ti's. Best rumor I've heard is that one 1080 Ti will exceed performance of 980 Ti by 50% - 70%. But that statement might be complete fiction. My personal goal is to eventually have two 1080 Ti's. It depends what my finances are looking like when they finally release.

2 1080ti's sounds awesome - dat some real power

Do note that 4K is not currently ideal for gaming monitors because you can't get a very high refresh rate. Nor would I run games at 4K anyway since 2560x1440 requires a lot less processing power and usually looks identical.

CIV5 has really small text and it's quite readable at 2560x1440 so I'm not too sold on 4K, and of course 4K has scaling issues with some programs (so does 1440p as it gets worse the higher the resolution).

We may see 4K solve its bandwidth issues at some point via dual card inputs (so 120Hz/120FPS?) so I'm not ruling it out, just be aware of the pros and cons.

Anyway, here's MY plan for upgrading:

2016/17-> Pascal (1.25X or higher perf than GTX980Ti, 8GB VRAM)
- passthrough HDMI/DP for VR? (EVGA has one like this to connect HUD to front of PC... permanently attached with a SWITCH would be nice though)

2017/18-> GSYNC monitor. Specs like:
a) GSYNC
b) 144Hz (2560x1440), or 100Hz (3440x1440)
c) IPS (possibly Quantum Dot version)
d) 4ms or lower refresh rate
e) HDR
f) QUALITY, plus good Warranty
