Hi!

My graphics card recently broke down. Kept getting a blue screen and the error message: "nvlddmkm.sys". I have tried everything and I've come to the conclusion that my graphics card is broken.

Which card would be best to replace it with? Say a maximum of 200 $.

PC Specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
RAM: 16 Gb
Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 580 1536 Mb.

I'd appreciate any advice you can give me! Is it time for me to upgrade to a new CPU aswell? My biggest concern as of now is my broken graphics card.

Yeah the GTX 1060 is a bit overbudget! I need to eat this month aswell! 😉

A bit of a noob-ish question. But I don't assume any card would fit in my computer. My PC is 7 years old at this point. How do I know which card fits so to speak?

Normally you check psu & case size. Your old 580 was a power hog so any modern gpu will use less power. Case you will need to check space. As long as you have a pcie x16 socket any gpu will fit and work, the sockets are backwards compatible and at 1060 level the older sockets won't impact performance. Your cpu is still fairly decent, a little old but holds up well. You could look at a 1050Ti but I'm not sure how big of an upgrade it is over the 580, there is a big difference between a 1050Ti & 1060.

I looked up the GTX 1060. There is a 3 Gb version and a 6 Gb version. Which do you recommend? I might be able to afford the 3 Gb one otherwise I'd have to wait for my next salary.

That CPU is still quite capable even by today standrard as long as it is being overclocked. 1050ti still a step up from 580 (1050ti is pretty much on the same level as GTX680) but if you want a big jump in performance 1060 would be better. 1060 3GB is a bit slower than 6GB model and you will have to lower some setting in games due to 3GB of VRAM. If you don't mind getting used parts try looking for used 970 or 980.
