I'm not sure what I should do. My GTX 960 2gig has been crashing while playing overwatch for some time now. I've updated recent drivers (clean installed), I've monitored the temps (GPU doesn't get any higher than about 57 c), AND I underclocked the card. Still getting random crashes and I'm up to my neck about it. It's so random too. Sometimes I'll get zero issues for the whole week, then I'll get crashes that won't go away. Also, I've noticed that in nvidia control panel, debug mode will randomly get checked off without me doing anything. What can I do to fix this?
Specs
I'll get something like "Rendering device has stopped working" or my drivers will flat out crash". Please help if you can.
gtx 960 2gig
8 gigs ddr3
Intel i5 4460
PSU XFX 550 W psu.
Overwatch is installed on a SSD
Windows 8.1

Solution

My PSU is an XFX 550w psu bronze +. Its been pretty reliable but i dont really know how to tell if its going bad. Also, a clean reinstall of what? the nvidia drivers?

So an update to what happened. I did some more testing in overwatch. I started a match with a ton of artifacting. Exited, came back, and the game was fine again. Two matches later, game crashed again and got the rendering device has stopped working error again. Is this just an issue with my GPU?

looks kinda common ?

now these guys say capp the fps you can do that through evga precision x or msi afterburner

''Frame Rate Target feature ''

http://www.anandtech.com/show/8589/anandtech-guide-to-video-card-overclocking-software/5

that may work I got a old game I got to set it to 60 or less to complete one map objective
I guess some newer faster can over run a game ? but that worked well for me and a game scratch my head for week trying to figure out why and that capping of the fps did the trick

Reseated my GPU. Testing stuff out now. Also tried playing another game (For Honor technical test.. not much of a game to test since its a test game, but still), and I had zero issues. Gonna try some other games and furmark later tonight. i'll update this with what I've got. My guess is that it is just something on blizzards end with this game, which frustrates the hell outta me, since this game runs perfectly outside of this one issue.

Update. After reseating the GPU, ive not crashed in about an hour 1/2 to 2 hours of gameplay (before it'd take maybe 20-30 minutes for a crash). Not sure if this is a real solution, but I'd hope it is. Hopefully upgrading is a solution too, because I plan to get a GTX 1060 soon anyways.

Solution
you could try running your card in debug mode ?

http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59594

see where that gets you ? maybe you got a bad download or update you do got to depend fully on a 3ed party like steam . not like you got the full game on disk so you know it you or the game directly / as stand alone [LOL....]

you pretty mucj turned your computer over to them when you clicked I AGREE and except mandatory downloads and content as ''they'' see fit weather it does you computer harm or not , too bad so sad

if nothing else you maybe down to try a clean fresh install of the game ? cause you just don't know if something may of got corrupted some how

After searching the web and trying a lot the solution was simple!!!!

My GTX 960 is an overclocked one running on windows 10 and DX 11 ..so it only runs well with zotacs software called FIRESTORM . The icon is a yellow circle. It must be on preferencially since windows start. Another thing I did at the same time is to get rid of NIVIA audidrivers I have uninstalled it from windows remove programm screen .

Before that I have tried a lot .. even a nobreak..thinking it was a eletric, thought it was the PSU even changed it . I tried putting the PC on 220v too and lo luck .

I have ran a lot of games since .. Battle field, crysis and so on with no problem.

If you GPU and PC freezes even on game start like 2min or even freezes while on windows..that´s a good try.

SO IF YOU HAVE A GTX 960 OC edition.. you must always get firestorm so it makes the video card work the right way.

I am more of a reader for solution but since I had this problem for like more than one month I decided to help !
