Even the 2gb model, in SLI, beats the GTX 690, which, when scaled properly and somewhat depending on title, pretty much matches evenly with the GTX 980. So it's six of one, half a dozen of the other so to speak. If you can afford the 980 and want it's performance, that's great, get it. Otherwise, another 770 will increase you performance substantially, but you WILL have to deal with the SLI issues that are natively inherent in a two card system. Alternatively, you could just go with a single 970, which handily beats down the 770, and although it doesn't have the firepower out of the box that the 980 has, it's a lot cheaper and can be overclocked to similar-ish performance as the 980 if you have great case cooling and pick the right...
