If you intend to game on multiple screens or game at resolutions above 1080p, then I would recommend the 980ti, otherwise the 970 will be enough. However, if you intend to play games at very high settings and/or stack multiple anti-aliasing methods on top of each other, then you would want the 980ti.

Long story short, the 980ti has more shaders and works better under heavy load at double method AA 1080p and above, while the 970 will do fine under medium load at single method AA 1080p and below.

The 970 fails on many new games in 1080. You always have to crank down settings for steady 60fps. There is 3rd option wait for pascal. According to gossips they will be out this summer.

Really?

Can you please name 5 games the 970 "fails" on in 1080p?

Ark survival evolved
Witcher 3
GTA 5
Battlefield 4
Crysis3
Metro last night
Armra 3
Project cars
Assassin creed unity/ syndicate
Quantum break (new game needs patches)
Those are few game you don't get steady 60fps on max settings.

Anybody who "maxes" out their settings doesn't know what they're doing (with extremely rare exceptions)

I would challenge and claim that a 970 on 1080p (provided it has the correct CPU paired in the system) will run any of the above games at 60FPS on very nice settings...mistakable for "max" settings.
