Perhaps someone can help me here. I keep hearing that the GTX 460 doesn't do tessellation quite as well, but looking at the benchmarks, I'm not seeing it:

Unigine:

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/34089-nvidia-geforce-gtx-460-1gb-gtx-460-768mb-review-13.html

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GTX_460_1_GB/28.html

Seems to me that the GTX 460 is on par or slightly faster than the GTX 465 in Unigine with tessellation.

AVP (I know, almost no tessellation):

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/34089-nvidia-geforce-gtx-460-1gb-gtx-460-768mb-review-7.html

Once again it seems like the GTX 460 pulls ahead.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-460-review/19

Once again, the GTX 460 seems pretty damn close to the GTX 465 with tessellation, albeit only the synthetic test has any decent amount of it. It all seems right to me. The GTX 460 performs tessellation about the same as the GTX 465, maybe a bit better according to some Unigine benchmarks. That is in line since Techpowerup found the GTX 460 and GTX 465 to perform identically on their performance summary.

So why am I seeing people say that the GTX 465 does tessellation so much better, and that the tessellation hit is the only bad thing about G104? The numbers don't seem to agree with that.

I wonder what the full 384 cores would perform like? I doubt it would be able to match the GTX 470, so no GTX 475. I'm not sure where that product would fit.

Whether it replaces the GTX460 or 465 or gets it's own designation, I would think it's safe to expect some healthy numbers in the benchies.

Agreed. Hell it may even be able to match a GTX 470, and if it does while running cooler and consuming less power than I can't complain.

I have been researching this as well. I know a tested model had them, but I can't find pictures of retail samples, even from Palits site that has them.
I noticed Asus's card from Anand tech had them in a picture.

I don't know if I'd use the term piss poor though :)
There are other makes that also have nothing over the VRM's , MSI' cyclone. But, that fan should have some blow by.

Wow.....

Those are fancy painted retail versions for $10 shipped. Get some god damn coolers on those VRMs before you lose a lot of customers to destroyed cards. Yeah, many enthusiast's cases can keep those VRMs cool enough, but most of your cards are going into DELL and other OEM cases, which won't.

I have no problem with your company and have grown to like some of your products, but this is unacceptable. It wouldn't effect me because I wouldn't mind putting my own on anyway, though it would likely be unnecessary for me, but most of your customers aren't like me.

Hmm, that sounds like something that should make it into the specifications list on newegg etc....

I'm really glad now that I cancelled my order last night. I originally canceled it because I won't have time to do the install(460 + other stuff) until next next weekend, but I would have been really mad to spend the money and then find out that there was no cooling there. I bought(and then cancelled) the non platinum because the only difference I saw was the factory OC and I didn't feel like paying $40 more for something I can do myself.

I'm going to wait until next week and see what my choices are on newegg and at the local Canada Computers

um i highly doubt "MOST" people are putting these into dells and other oem cases rofl! Wtf r u thinking. Only a few people do that and if someone wants to upgrade their retail systems integreated gpu they usualy get $20-$100 cards... but i see your point...

I'm refering to low airflow, budget cases too. Think of the Cooler Master Centurion 5. It has one 120mm fan and 1 80mm fan. I've seen budget Dells with 2 120mm fans before. These aren't cooling optimized cases, but they are the type of cases most have, even gamers.

You are right. Only test samples have them. All retailers from all manufacturer do not have them. It's engineering sample.

I wonder if Nvidia can deliver a Dual GPU card with two GF104s having all the cores enabled.

Here is the latest US Review WITHOUT the heatsink VRM.

"EDITOR's Choice"

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/palit_gtx460_sonic_platinum/2.htm

I know there's alot of people complaining about no heatsink on VRM but soon they will see there it really makes no difference.

Thank you.
